At 60, Rishi Kapoor left Hollywood action directors Tom Struthers and John Street of Inception and The Dark Knight Rises fame, stunned. The actor is said to have performed a well-executed action sequence on the sets of his upcoming film D-Day without any training or rehearsals.
Rishi, who plays the character of Goldman, a wanted criminal, was shooting for the sequence with Irrfan.
The scene required Rishi to crawl on the ground and engage in some intense hand to hand combat, and he surprised the action director duo with his agility and accuracy, said a source.
The scene ended up looking authentic and well-executed, leaving Struthers and Street amazed.
D-Day is directed by Nikhil Advani. It also features Arjun Rampal, Shruti Haasan, Huma Qureshi, Akash Dahiya, Sree Swara and Chandan Roy Sanyal. The movie is slated to release on July 19.

She is young, vivacious and has played the love struck romantic in films, but actress Sonam Kapoor confesses that she has not been lucky when it came to love in real life. Born with a silver spoon, the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor and former model Sunita was said to be dating I Hate Luv Storys director Punit Malhotra and was also romantically linked to her Mausam co-star Shahid Kapoor.
But in a candid confession, she said: “My love life has been quite unsuccessful. I am single, but I think human beings have the capacity to love.”
The 27-year-old feels love is not a restricted feeling.
“I don’t think you can fall in love only once. You can fall in love over and over again. We have the capacity and we have the heart to do that,” said Sonam.
Her real life romance has not been inspiring, but on the screen she has been part of several love stories, including her debut film Saawariya as well as mushy dramas such as I Hate Luv Storys and Aisha.
Her forthcoming film Raanjhanaa also belongs to the same genre. In the film, she will be seen romancing southern star Dhanush, who is making his Bollywood debut with the Anand L Rai directed movie.
When asked about her chemistry with Dhanush in Raanjhanaa, Sonam said: “Chemistry is not between two people, it’s between two characters. Chemistry gets created by moments. For example, Shahid and Kareena had done many films together, but people never spoke about their chemistry. But when they did Jab We Metbecause of the scenes and their roles, people liked it.” She insists that chemistry can be created through “acting, scenes and the way the director projects it. Chemistry is a very overdone, overspoken thing”.
Raanjhanaa was shot in Varanasi and the actress admits being nervous while giving her first shot in the holy city.
“It wasn’t difficult, I was nervous doing it. When I was in Varanasi, about 200 people were there when I gave my first shot,” she said.
She was in a “school uniform” for the shot and was surrounded by men. They accepted us very well, but I was nervous while shooting”.
Dhanush is not familiar with Hindi and he struggled with the dialogues, but Sonam feels that when it comes to emotions, language has never been a barrier.
“He is very quiet and modest… he worked hard on the language. When it comes to emotions, you don’t need a language to express it. He expressed himself beautifully. He is such a creative person,” she said.
Although most of her films bombed at the box office, the actress doesn’t regret anything.
“I don’t regret anything because when I was doing films like Thank You and Mausam, I decided to do the films that satisfied me. I don’t look at films with their box-office success. I want that 20 years down the line, people should remember my films,” she explained.

Getting a certain tag in Bollywood is not always a bad thing. Being called a serial kisser worked wonders for Emraan Hashmi’s career and if Arjun’s choice of roles is anything to go by, he too is taking a cue from Hashmi. Arjun’s much talked about intimate scenes in D Day with Shruti Haasan have already triggered off the speculation about Rampal’s attempt to get an image makeover. “In the past he has done lovemaking scenes in Rajneeti, Heroine and Inkaar but his over-the-top act in D Day has sent out a strong message that Arjun is the new male sex symbol of the film industry,” says our source. For years John Abraham has enjoyed the tag of being the only on screen bold actor, but looks like he may have competition.
However, sources close to Arjun don’t think so. “It was a demand of the script was purely coincidental that his last few films have had love-making scenes. There is no planned strategy,” says sources close to Arjun.

When Mumbai based singer and actor Priyanka Panchal walked into a textile store on her maiden visit to Kerala, she was in for a pleasant surprise! Some of the people recognised her and congratulated her on her performance that completely floored Priyanka. Priyanka plays Princess Aditi in the hugely popular mega serial Kaila sanadhan (Mahadev in Hindi), currently being telecast on Asianet.
She is in Kerala to sing an English song for an international album Forever Yours, composed by Sunny Viswanath. She has also been receiving a couple of acting offers from Mollywood directors. Commenting on the North-South barrier being obliterated she talks about her initiation into the world of glamour. She started off by training in dance on the insistence of her parents.
Later, she joined a per sonality development and acting course when still young and discovered that she had talent for acting which she honed on stage while working in theatre. She became a part of the children’s theatre movement and started performing on stage from the age of thirteen.
Where does singing come in? Priyanka smiles, “My grandfather wanted me to learn singing.” In between she also found the time to pursue an interior designing course. Through all these pursuits, Priyanka discovered that it was acting that haunted her and decided to chase her dream.
Priyanka confesses, “Primarily I wanted to get into films but I also wanted to be confident and knowledgeable about camera angles and get over my fears.” That is how she ended up being a part of Mahadev and Phir Subah Hogi which won her accolades. Surefooted about beginning her innings in Bollywood, she accepted a role in Silent Heroes which is a story about thirteen deaf kids and Priyanka played their teacher which she signed on because the script excited her. She also got a chance to do a bit of mountaineering for the film which excited her.
Her passion to experiment and expand her horizons, language barrier notwithstanding, is what makes Priyanka a candidate for Mollywood offers. Priyanka opines, “I love challenges and especially if it is a new learning experience for me, I would definitely give it a go! The stories here are rooted in reality and I hope to act in a Malayalam project. My inspiration to work in Mollywood is Anupam Kher in Pranayam! If such great Bollywood actors are working in Mollywood, I should definitely work here for sure too!”

Everyone is baying for Suraj Pancholi’s blood after the tragic suicide of his actor girlfriend Jiah Khan. While the law will take its own course regarding his role in Jiah’s death, we ask experts for their take on where Jiah herself went wrong — based on her suicide note — and how difficult it is in a changing sexual and psychological scenario, as far as relationships are concerned in India.
‘Can’t blame only Suraj’
Pulkit Sharma, psychologist at VIMHANS says that Jiah should have walked out of the relationship when things started going wrong. “Making Suraj the villain is wrong. Jiah always had the choice to get out of the relationship. If someone is treating you badly why would you want to stay with them? Learn from your mistakes and move on.”
Also, from her letters, she comes across as weak and clingy and by that I mean someone who hasn’t got rid of her previous emotional baggage.”
“What one should learn from this episode is that you can’t depend on one person for your emotional stability. You need to look after yourself. One should also have a strong network of friends and family so that they never depend on one person.”
Advice for youngsters
With youngsters getting into relationships a lot earlier these days, clinical psychologist at Yashoda Hospital, Dr K. Prashant, has some tips for young people regarding how to handle relationships.
To boys
Analyse the emotional reactivity of the girl you are with. Does she get overtly angry if you are late and suspects you? A lot can be said about the girl’s psychological make-up from the kind of relationship her parents share. If she comes from a family that has a history of broken and estranged relationships, she will be more dependent on you for stability. “Just because someone is well-educated doesn’t mean that she will take a break-up or cheating gracefully. They are the ones who crash badly as they have a greater sense of pride,” says Dr Prashant.
To Girls
Dr Prashant says: “Many boys challenge girls to prove their loyalty through sex. Girls often fall for it. When you are taking such a step, think whether it will lead to happiness in the future; will you be able to share this with your kids in the future?
On consensual sex, he adds, “When a girl is ready to cross the line in a relationship, a boy must not take advantage of that vulnerability so that she is not shamed in future. Because in such cases, a woman has much more to lose.”
“Dating or sex should be only a part of a relationship and not the whole of it,” he adds.
Jiah surrendered control
Dr Prashant feels that Suraj Pancholi cannot be blamed entirely. “From Jiah Khan’s letter, it was evident that she had surrendered control to him. That is something we do with our life partners and not a boyfriend who is barely 22. In her letter, she mentions about her birthday, Christmas and involvement with the family and how his absence ruined it. It’s as if these circumstances ruined her relationship with Suraj.”
Family support is all important
Dr Shravanti, counsellor at the Roshni Counselling Centre, feels that the actor’s mother was perhaps not always around for her. “Jiah Khan had always been a traumatised child and even her father had disowned her,” she says, adding, “Her mother should have been with her throughout rather than just coming into the scene when Jiah came into the limelight as an actor. If her mother would have been supportive all through her life, Jiah would have been alive today.”
“Parents generally play the role of a coach or a referee. As a coach, parents guide the child and as a referee they pick faults in the child. For a perfect balance, parents should play the role of both the coach and the referee,” she adds.
Tribute from RGV
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who had launched Jiah Khan in the critically acclaimed Nishabd, has clarified that he has no plans of making a feature film on the B-town actor who recently committed suicide. He, however, has made a two-minute film on Jiah as a special tribute. Titled The Reel and Reality of Jiah, RGV has gifted this special video to the actor’s bereaved family.

It's exciting to see how our filmmakers come up with creative ideas to promote their respective projects... One of the films which became talk of the town these days for its hatke (read different) promotion is 'Fukrey'...

Owing to its innovative promotions, the film bagged maximum attention. At the music launch of the film the cast came on horses whereas producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani came on bicycles. Next, the entire cast of the film celebrated a Fukra party with second class students.

This time around the team of film has designed spoof posters of 'Fukrey' on the lines of Hollywood movie 'Man of steel' and 'Scavengers'. In fact, having a spoof on another film hasn't been a practice in B-town.

So with 'Fukrey', the team is taking a dope on a Hollywood venture. Incidentally 'Superman' and 'Fukrey' are releasing on the same day, that is, 14th June. Both Farhan and Ritesh, who are pretty excited with 'Fukrey', are leaving no stones unturned to highlight their film.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra’s father, Dr Ashok Chopra, passed away today after a prolonged battle with cancer. The actress’ father died at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, Priyanka’s manager told PTI.
Priyanka had posted a collage of her and her father’s picture on Twitter this morning.
Dr Chopra, a physician in the Indian Army, was seriously ill for a longtime.
He had accompanied Priyanka to Vancouver for the TOIFA Awards earlier this year despite his ill health. Priyanka, who won the best actress award there for her role in ‘Barfi!’ dedicated the trophy to her father.
The actress, who inherited the love for music from her father, was very close to Dr Chopra and even has a tattoo ‘Daddy’s lil girl’ inked on her wrist.
For over a fortnight, the actress had been by her father’s side due his illness, keeping aside all her film assignments.
Asha Bhosle, Bipasha Basu, Prabhudeva, Kunal Kohli and other members of the film fraternity took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express their condolences to the 30-year-old actress.
“Deepest condolences to Priyanka Chopraji and family on the passing away of her father. He loved his music, country and family,” Bhosle posted on Twitter.
Bipasha, who once worked with Priyanka, posted, “Strength to you Priyanka Chopra and your family.”
“RIP Dr Chopra. Condolences to Priyanka Chopra. Had a great love for music. Met him in Vancouver last, amazing zest for life,” posted Kohli.
Prabhudeva tweeted, “So sorry to hear about Priyanka Chopra’s father. I hope god gives strength to her and her family to cope up with this loss. My condolences.”
“Oh No!!! Priyanka Chopra may God give you strength. Lots of love. May his soul rest in peace,” posted Anubhav Sinha.

She has just finished shooting Phata Poster Nikla Hero with Shahid Kapur. What’s he like to work with? “Shahid is great fun and no, he is not an introvert! He’s a brat! But that’s what made the shoot more fun!” she laughs.
Has she left the Telugu film industry for good or does she plan to return? “I don’t like the word — comeback. I haven’t left the industry to make a ‘comeback’; I’m busy with other work,” she argues.
There have been whisperings about a movie directed by Srinu Vaitla. Is it true? “As of now, I haven’t signed anything. I’d love to work in Telugu movies provided I get a good script,” is her safe and diplomatic reply.
With a busy schedule, does she find the time to relax? “No I don’t. Though my life is really busy, I’m glad I moved,” she says.
How much has life changed since she moved to Mumbai? “I’ve evolved as a person and become more independent and stronger,” she admits.
In a hectic life, friends can be a welcome break. Has she managed to make any in B’town? “I’m choosy about my friends and I take time,” is all she reveals.
So what does the future hold for Ileana? “It’s too early to discuss my film projects now. I will ,when the time is right,” she says. Any plans to tie the knot? “No! Marriage is too huge a decision. I have a long way to go. For now, I haven’t even given it a thought!” says the glamorous star.

The glasses helped me live that part. I'd like to keep them as a memory of her." An insider close to her added that Deepika asked Karan Johar (the film's producer) to send her the glasses, "She's emotional about the character, and the glasses were an important part of it. Also, people kept calling her 'chashmish' (a term she was addressed as in the film too)."

The spectacles are currently with the team at Dharma Productions, but Karan has already given them instructions to send the pair to Deepika. "She has never worn glasses in her other films, so she wants to keep these as a souvenir. She's also relieved that the audience liked her bespectacled look," said the insider.

Actor Farhan Akhtar, who plays legendary sportsman Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, says it was a huge responsibility to take up the iconic role and he has not tried to mimic the sprinter. “To do a role like this you have to interpret the character as you don’t want to go into impersonation of somebody or do mimicry act. You have to make the character your own for that you have to start becoming that person. I did focus on this aspect,” Farhan told PTI in an exclusive interview here.
Also, while working on this mega project, Farhan met the Flying Singh and observed him closely.
“I had couple of meetings with him where I just heard him speak about his life and did not want to ask him any specific questions. To hear someone talk about their life – you get to know the way their eyes moisten up, how big the smile is or how comfortable their body language is while talking to someone. So that is how you pick up things and you focus on when you act,” he said.
“To do this character was a serious responsibility as that is the big thing. To say whether it was difficult or easy is subjective because when you are excited about something no matter how hard it is it becomes fun and easy. There was a huge responsibility to play Milkhaji,” Farhan said.
Considering, the film is a biopic on the sportsman, so most of the creative inputs mainly came from him and the writers to which Farhan was not privy.
To look the part, Farhan built an admirable athletic body besides long hair and beard pushing himself beyond limitations.
He has been religiously following a fitness regime that athletes follow for two years. He has reportedly been through various training sessions, which only sport-persons undergo.
The actor-filmmaker insists that when Milkha Singh will watch this film he will feel proud as they have stood by his philosophy to push oneself, work against almost all odds and achieve the kind of status that he has, in the film.
The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and the makers are looking for a July 12 release this year.
Meanwhile, the 39-year-old has been roped as the brand ambassador by electronics maker Intex Technologies for its range of smartphones.
Farhan is a gadget freak and his work keeps him heavily dependent on technology.
“As filmmaking involves lot of technology. So fortunately because of that you have to stay interested, try and stay ahead of everything as it is beneficial,” he said.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha claims that his upcoming political drama ‘Satyagraha’ has nothing to do with social activist Anna Hazare or Arvind Kejriwal, but is basically about a father-son relationship. “The film is about an old and a young man… That does not mean it is about Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal. The old man is a retired principal of a school and has lost his son, while the young man has done great in life and is looking for a father,” Jha told PTI in an interview.
“It is about father-son relation and not about Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal,” he added.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s is playing a role akin to Anna Hazare in the film, while Ajay Devgn’s character is said to be based on activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal.
However, Jha insists that ‘Satyagraha’ is about protests in general and he has been working on it for the last three years.
“There is an inspiration, but not about corruption but that of protest. The society is going through this phase of protests world over, whether it is India or Bangladesh or Wall Street. That forms the inspiration of the backdrop,” Jha said.
Besides Bachchan and Devgn, other leading actors in the film include Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee and Amrita Rao.
Jha is bringing a modified version of iconic bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’ in ‘Satyagraha’, which was one of the favourites of Mahatma Gandhi.
“I have used the song ‘Raghu Pati Raghav Raja Ram’, which he (Gandhiji) popularised. That is the only direct involvement of him,” he said.
According to sources, the film will hit the cinema houses by August 15.

After his guest appearances in Om Shanti Om and Luck By Chance, director-producer Karan Johar is all set to play a full-fledged negative role opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Anurag Kashyap’s period drama Bombay Velvet. Johar, who collaborated with Kashyap on anthology film Bombay Talkies, said the offer came to him out of the blue.
“It’s true that I’m acting in Bombay Velvet and it’s unusual for me. I was blown away by the narrative… Since I’m playing an antagonist, there are shades of grey to my character,” Johar said in a statement.
The director’s first movie appearance was over a decade-and-half ago in the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol-starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.Johar later became famous for directing big budget romance and family dramas like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name is Khan.
The 41-year-old filmmaker is excited about the movie.
“I didn’t know whether I was ready for it. Now, I will start working on my role with Anurag. I will follow his directorial vision, and I won’t bring my director’s baggage on the sets,” Johar said, adding Ranbir was also keen to see him in the movie.
The two director have clearly put their differences behind as Kashyap says he first approached Johar to talk about the movie but decided to cast him on an impulse.
“Karan is fantastic for the part. I actually wanted to bounce ideas off him. He loved the script, and I suddenly asked if he will play the role. He was surprised, but said yes. Karan said he will charge Rs 11, and the money kept aside will go for special effects and production,” Kashyap said.
It is not for the first time that Kashyap has chosen a director for a key role in his film. He previously cast his director friend Tigmanshu Dhulia in a negative role in his two-part crime saga Gangs of Wasseypur.
Set against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and Jazz, Bombay Velvet, first in a planned trilogy, tells the story of how Bombay became a Metropolis. Historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables forms the basis for the movie.
Ranbir and Anushka, who have been paired together for thefirst time, play lovers whose lives intermingle with the evolution of the city of Bombay, through the 50s to early 70s.
