Tips For Smelly Towels

Vinegar Method

* Put your towels in the washing machine for a thorough wash. Use very hot water to wash the towels. Add one or two cups of white vinegar in hot water. Do not add detergent or any other product at this time. Run the washer.
* Let the washer complete a cycle and then, add detergent. Wash the towels as you clean your normal laundry, after pouring in some more hot water. Do not use any fabric softener or other product during this washing round as well.
* Dry the cleaned towels in the dryer on a high-heat setting. Let the towels dry thoroughly before you begin using them again. Try hanging the towels in sunlight for drying.

Ammonia Method

* Put your towels in the washing machine and add a moderate amount of detergent.
* Use very hot water for cleaning the towels and make sure that you do not add fabric softener or any other product.
* Put one cup of sudsy or clear ammonia during the rinse cycle. Let one cycle finish.
* Once the washer stops moving, pull out the towels immediately from the machine and dry them on normal dryer settings.

After you have washed your towels following the above mentioned vinegar or ammonia method, smell them. If they are not absolutely free of the musty smell, soak them overnight. Put the towels in the washer and add very hot water. Add one cup of ammonia and leave the towels overnight. In the morning, add a non-bleach detergent and wash the towels like your regular laundry.

Sundry Method
After every use, hang the towel in an open area with ample of sunlight to dry. Sunlight will absorb any moisture left in the towel, which is the reason behind their smelling. As direct sunlight may not be available all the time, you can also hang the towel in front of an open window. You can install a towel hanger on the wall above the window of your bathroom for this purpose.

Other Tips

* Spray an odor-neutralizer on your towel after every use. Odor neutralizers kill the odor causing bacteria and this will keep the smell under check.
* Running a dehumidifier in the bathroom, when not in use, will also help remove the moisture from the towels more quickly.

Furniture Arrangement
The design and spacing of you living room may call for a certain type of furniture arrangement. If you have a fireplace in your living room, position your sofa and recliner on a wall beside it. Both the items can also be placed several feet directly in front of the fireplace. If your living room is large and spacious, the sofas can be placed facing each other. Take care that your furniture should neither be too large, nor too small, in proportion to the living room. Do not use too many furniture items in the living room.

Wall Décor
You can cover your walls with beautiful wall hangings to impart character to the living room. In fact, you can make use of your creative abilities and create some homemade wall hangings, which are also non-expensive. Visit your local poster or art shop and pick some aesthetic prints, which you can get framed and use as wall hangings. Framed family photographs can also be hung on the walls. However, do not cover the walls completely, as it will make the room look cumbersome.

Choose Convenient & Classy Furnishings
Tables with drawers and shelves are required to add convenient storage facilities to the living room. You might want a few things at your quick disposal. You can try a versatile ottoman topped with a tray that will appear like an impromptu cocktail table. If you want to keep it very basic and minimalist, go for a simple desk fitted with shelves, which can be multipurpose.

Cushions & Slip Covers
Cushions, in bright and matching colors, can be added to your lounge. It will not cost you a lot and at the same time, will give a new, changed look to your chairs. Covers will also help conceal any scratches on your chairs that have appeared over time. The mood of the room can be changed by adding slip covers, once you are done with the cushions. Modern mix and match colors in different textures would look beautiful.

Window Valances
You can actually bring about a transformation in the look of your living room just by installing window valances on the windows. A window valance is a small-sized decorative curtain and is much shorter when compared to the normal curtains. Window valances look pretty on a bare window, over the existing curtains or the window blinds. They make the windows look larger and are a beautiful addition to the living room.

Romantic Dining Room
This kind of dining room works well with newly married couples or nuclear families that stay away from the proximity of their family members. It can gel well for the romantic candle night dinner after day’s work, reflecting the artistic side of the couple. You can have elaborate chandelier/s with ethnic or modern candle stands. You can also feature the ceiling with decorative pattern and paint the color red with sober white tint, to make the room feel romantic and special.

Modern Dining Room
Modern dining room works for the classy and chic generation that does not like too much clutter and wants to make everything look ultra dynamic with the stylized pieces. Chrome and glass form the magic ingredients with innovative and sober pieces for decoration. You can select from the wide range of dividers available in the market, like glass, hangings, and waterfall, to give it an edge over others. You can have stylized furniture in the room, but keep it as minimal as possible. The beauty of the room can be enhanced with stylized ceiling down lights, to focus on the table properly.

Glamorous Dining Room
Glamorous dining room suits the profile of only those individuals who have the capability to handle it. The room demands extra care. Have a look at the pictures of various glamorous dining rooms of the celebrities and take an idea of how things should work out for you. Now, take the help of a professional interior designer (if you wish) and blend different ideas popping up in your mind, to decorate the room. You can choose from the long chandeliers, lots of glass and a dash of gold for the same. Lighting should be done in a way to make the room look alluring, but don’t overdo it.

Traditional Dining Room
Traditional dining room works well for the people who host a lot of parties at their home. The dining table, in this case, is the most important factor, as it needs to be bigger than the usual, while keeping in mind that there has to be enough space to walk around. Pick one color, like cream or yellow, and use different shades to mark an impact. The traditional dining room is supposed to be for formal gathering too; hence, it needs to be sophisticated, giving the entire house a royal presence.

How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies

* Pour some apple cider vinegar in a cup and add just two drops of dish washing liquid in it (excess will dilute the vinegar). Mix these ingredients well, using a spoon. Place the cup in the corner of the countertop to attract the flies, which will be drawn to the cup. Repeat the process on a daily basis, until all the fruit flies get eliminated.

* You can also use a trap to catch those little pests. Take a bowl and put a ripe banana (peel removed) in it. Cover the bowl with a paper and fasten a rubber band around it, to make the surface flat. Now, take a needle and poke many small holes in the paper. Leave the bowl overnight to attract flies. The flies will manage to enter the bowl, but won’t be able to escape.

* Getting rid of the food sources that attract fruit flies is a feasible option to stop their invasion. It is sugar that the fruit flies are after and they can extract any amount of sugar from all organic foods, including fruits, vegetables and liquids. Even fresh flowers can be a source of nectar. So, make sure never to leave such things exposed in the house.

* Take care to discard the overripe fruits or eatables, as they are a major source of attraction for the flies. Also, clean up the basket or bowl that contained the overripe fruits.

* Flush your drains and garbage disposals with ammonia and drain cleaners. You will have to do this at least once every few days. You can also partially plug the drain to fill the sink, in order to allow the cleaners to trickle down slowly and stay present in the pipes for some time.

* Cleaning up the kitchen mess also helps in discouraging the fruit flies, which thrive on exposed foods. Sacks of potatoes and bags of grains and legumes that have turned moist are inviting signals for flies.

* Clean opened containers of fruit juices and fermented or vinegar products, such as ketchup, siracha or cooking wine. Seal them well and store in the refrigerator, if that kind of space is available.

* Keep the seals of your refrigerator door, its surface and handle clean to discourage the fruit flies. If there is any evaporation pan in your fridge, clean it thoroughly.

However, before plunging into the activity of gardening vegetables, you need to make sure of certain factors. The place or site you choose should receive 6-8 hours of sunlight a day and also it should be near to a water supply.
The first step would be to dig the garden area to a depth of about 8-10 inches. However, make sure that you do not start the digging process, when the soil is too wet. To check whether the soil is too wet or not, you need to squeeze together a handful of it. If it sticks together in a ball and does not crumble under slight pressure by the thumb and finger, it is too wet.

To improve the quality of the soil, add some organic matter to it. This would help release nitrogen, minerals, and other nutrients for plant use. Thereafter, add some well-rotted compost or manure into the soil. You can even go for mulch of partly rotted straw, compost or crop residue on the soil. This would help to keep the soil surface in good condition and also slows down the process of water evaporation from the soil.
Layout of Vegetables
Once the soil has been prepared, it is time to consider the layout of the vegetable bed. Normally, the crops are planted in a row of eighteen inches apart or just wide enough, allowing you room to move about. An alternative to this would be to create a raised or wide bed. In such a situation, the site is divided into a number of beds of about four feet wide, with a narrow path in between. This way you can reach the middle of the bed without treading on the soil.

Choosing Seeds
Next in line comes choosing the seeds. The best option would be to choose disease resistant varieties. While in warmer climatic areas, you need to cultivate the soil to a fine tilth and then sow the seeds at the depth, in cooler zones, seeds need to be sown in trays or flats indoors. In case of the latter option, make sure you provide the seeds sufficient overhead light, ensuring satisfactory germination and growth. Before planting the seeds out in the beds, the seedlings need to be hardened off. For this, place them outside for longer periods each day, so that they adapt themselves to the outside temperature.
Watering
Once you have completed with the initial process of planting vegetables, all you need to do is water them regularly. Generally, vegetables require at least one inch of water per week. In case, you live in an area that does not receive much rainfall, you need to water the plants yourself. Early mornings serve as the best time to water the vegetable plants. To control the weeds, tidy your bed regularly and make sure to leave the soil in a loose, friable condition to absorb rainfall.
