Azagaperumal, who had directed films like ‘Dum Dum Dum’ and ‘Joot’ is the director of this film. This was the first film that he had started. For more than 2 years, the film had run into various kinds of troubles before it finally managed to get released. The film also proves the point that it is not good to delay a film’s release fo such a long time. It looks redundant.
Simran is not interested in getting married to her cousin, but, her marriage is fixed anyway. She is in love with her lecturer, Vijay. But, Vijay feels betrayed by her and comes to Chennai to work with his journalist friend Vivek. Terrorists and fanatics occupy the room next to Vijay’s and they try their best to convince him to join their movement. Meanwhile, Vivek gets killed when he unravels the story of illicit spirit manufacturing gang. Vijay is unable to take any legal action against the gang. He falls for the lies of the leader of the terrorist gang, played by Nasser and begins to work for him. Vijay is trained in Atomic Physics and invents a new explosive. Nasser usses the bomb to blow up and train and falsely implicates Vijay in the case. The rest of the story is about how Vijay finds out the real nature of Nasser and settles score with him.
The continuity jumps make it very obvious that the film wasn’t completed and that it was somehow put together with whatever was available. There are two incomplete songs (it looks as if the film’s length is shorter than the planned 2000 ft).
The terrorist gang’s activities arent clear. The approaches they take to convince Vijay are extremely childish. It is absurd to watch them invite him to jump straight into violence. Also absurd are Nasser’s request to Vijay to invent something that could be used to blow up rocks and Vijay’s invention of RDO which is stronger than RDX.
Nasser also the the ‘genius’ villain who doesn’t run away when the school bus with children explodes but instead stays to fight with Vijay who tries to rescue the kids. And, very ‘brilliantly’he gets caught by the police!
One can understand why Vijay had agreed to do this film- it was the role of a young man who gets caught in a terrorist gang and has to find his way out. But, a dull screenplay and lifeless scenes have wasted him.
Its not clear why he loses his temper when Simran invites him for her wedding. The greatest weaknesses of the story – Vijay’s invention being used to blow up a train and Vijay’s immense faith that Nasser is a good man in spite of too many evidences to the contrary. Just when you thought that Vivek’s comedy will come as a welcome relief, he is killed in the story. Simran’s passionate argument with her own advocate to get Vijay released is kind of touching.
Sujatha had written the dialogues. Unbelievable! AR Rehman’s songs arent that wonderful either. Nothingelse is remarkable about the |
