Agra, Uttar Pradesh : The home of Taj Mahal, Inida's most famous monument, on the banks of Yamuna. Work began 1632, took 22 years to complete the complex. Agra is an industrial town with a famous fort.

Mysore Dassehra : A tradition laid down by the ruling Wodeyar dynasty of the erstwhile Mysore state in Karnataka, the Dussehra procession consists of as many 100 elephants and horses. These fine bedecked elephants reflect the grandeur of the kingdom once upon a time. The Maharaja's palace is lighted tastefully and the night long musical sessions also go on for 10 days. The image of the Goddess Chamundeshwari is taken out on a caparisoned elephant in the processsion, adding the right element of religion to the celebrations.

This festival is held in Sept - Oct for 10 days and 9 nights and then the town becomes agog with much festivity, music, colour, illumination and religious fervour. On Vijaya Dashmi, the final day of festivity, a big and famous parade is taken out, an extravaganza reminscent of royal days. Chamundeshwari is the tutelary deity of the royal family. Her shrine is atop a nearby hill about 4 km away from the city accessible by frequent bus service.

Berlin : Capital of Germany. City founded in 13 th century. In 1948 Soviet controlled East Berlin and west Berlin (controlled by US, UK and France) were born. Berlin wall was built by East German government in 1961and it was opened in 1961.

Bermuda (West Atlantic) : A British overseas territory, earlier known as Somers Islands. Bermuda, the Greater Antilles and the US coast make 'Bermuda Triangle', an area where aircrafts are reported to have vanished mysteriously.

Bethlehem (Palestine) : Birth place of Jesus Christ, which is marked by a star at the floor in a church. The early home of king David. Annexed by Jordan in 1950. Later was part of west Bank. Turned over to Palestine in 1995.

Bikini (Pacific) : Atolll in Marshall islands. Site of US nuclear tests, the first Hydrogen bomb test (1952).

Birmingham (UK) : Britain's second largest city, developed rapidly in the industrial revolution.

Bonn (Germany) : Capital of west Germany from 1949 to 1990, when two Germanays were unified. Beethowan was born here.

Borneo (Malay Archipelago ) : World's third largest island. Thinly populated. Sabah and Sarawak are part of Malaysia, Brunei is independent, Kalimantan state belongs to Indonesia.

Bosnia (E. Europe ) : The Interantional crisis that lead to the outbreak of WW I had its roots here. Austria - Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina and trouble began. It has been in the news since 1990 due to ethnic war.

Broadway (USA) : Principal theatre district located on or near the street Broadway in New York.

Brunei (Southeast Asia) : Sultanate. Sultan Bulkiah was the world's richest person for many years. In 16 th c, Brunei ruled over the whole Borneo and parts of the Philippines.

Brussels (Belgium) : Capital. HQ of EU and NATO.

Budpest (Hungary) : Capital created in 1873 by merging the towns of Buda and Pest, on the two sides of the Danube.
