![]() After carving a niche for himself in Tamil filmdom with several power-packed performances, top Malayalam actor Mammootty says his home commitments leave him little time to take up Tamil projects. "I have more commitments in the film world in Kerala. But I am game for good roles and would like to feature in such films,' he told reporters. Mammootty said he was currently working with actor Arjun in the Tamil film Aruvadai (The Harvest). In the Maniratnam directed-Rajinikant-starrer Dalapathy some years ago, Mammootty, who played the role of Devaraj, a gang lord, was an apt foil to the Tamil superstar and his histrionics earned accolades from the Tamil audience. He also starred in Anandam and Marumalarchi, earning critical acclaim. In Mounam Sammatham, which was also a hit, he played the role of an advocate. To a query, Mammootty said Tamil films enjoyed good market in Kerala and called for more promotion of Malayalam films in Tamil Nadu. Some Tamil films raked box-office collections in crores in Kerala though that was not the case with Malayalam movies in Tamil Nadu, he said. Mammootty, who has won the national best actor award for his performances in Ambedkar, Ponthanmada and Oru Vadakan Veeragadha, welcomed Malayalam films venturing into more commercial genre, shedding their decades-old style of harping on depicting day-to-day issues.
