With this film, another director debuts who knows how to use Sathyaraj properly. The specialty of this film is- the director has managed to create a role that suits Sathyaraj’s real age and appearance. Director Shivaraj has given Sathyaraj an opportunity to create riot in the film.
Sathyaraj hits the ripe age of 50 withouth the touch of a woman. But, his greatest passions are booze and brawl. In the Ms Chennai contest, one of the participants, Rathi beautifully describes what a woman brings into a relationship. That’s when Sathyaraj realizes what he had been missing all along and in spite of the huge age difference, he falls madly in love with Rathi herself. He also begins to compel her to fall in love with him. The consequences are revealed in a typical Sathyaraj-style.
Its hilarious to watch Sathyaraj’s jubilation when Rathi tells him that he still hasn’t lost his youthfulness. Funnier are his attempts to fine tune his youthful looks and his dream sequences to the song ‘Kavithaiyae theriyumaa’. The ideas given by his henchmen Thulukanam and Rajkapoor to make the 50 year old Sathyaraj’s love story a success are very enjoyable too.
It is hard to believe that Napoleon could have so easily convinced Rathi’s family and brought them back from the airport when they were attempting to flee from the city. The director has not explained why Sathyaraj insists that Napoleon remain single when all the other henchmen are married and are living with their families. Though it is an exaggeration to see a gun-waving Napoleon speak to Rathi in the college, you enjoy the comedy in it.
Rathi has played her part well- that of a girl harassed by Sathyaraj’s romantic advances. Abbas fails to make an impact as Rathi’s lover. Also in the film are Sukanya, TP Gajendran and Vaiyapuri. Deva has composed the film’s music. He has simply re-released the tune of ‘Manmadaraasa’ as ‘Ummah’. But, it suits the tempo of the film.
The film has made Sathyaraj a very happy man. |
