|

Ranakpur temple, Rajasthan : The largest Jain temple in India in the forested Aravalli hills is 30 km from Falna railway station (On Ahmedabad - Marwar - Delhi line). The 13 th century temple is dedicated to Sun god built in the classic Nagara style. The temple is richly ornamented with intricate sculptural work in white limestone. The sanctum is crowned with a shikhara and the octagonal mandapa preceeding the sanctum has six verandahs. The mandapa houses exquisitely carved pillars and sculpted toranas join the columns, leading to the sanctum.
The Adinath Jain temple complex has 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars of which no two are exactly alike. A quadruple image of Adinath stands in the main shrine, open on all four sides. Another spectacular temple in Ranakpur is the Chaumukh temple dedicated to Adinath, one of the Jain Tirthankaras.
Ranakpur Jain temple is one of the main Jain pilgrim centres in India. The huge temple complex is made of pure white marble quarried from Makrana in Rajastan, which has supplied quality white marble to Taj Mahal and Victoria memorial Kolkatta.
The beautifully carved temple is made in three stories and photography is permitted from 1300 h onwards at a fee of Rs 50.
It is 2 hour jouney from Abu road by train. Well connected by bus from Udaipur and Jodhpur via Falna.
Be in Ranakpur and enjoy the marvel. Don't miss the Abu too.
