Ranakpur a wonder in white marble
Ranakpur temple, Rajasthan : The largest Jain temple in India in the forested Aravalli hills is 30 km from Falna railway station (On Ahmedabad - Marwar - Delhi line). The 13 th century temple is dedicated to Sun god built in the classic Nagara style. The temple is richly ornamented with intricate sculptural work in white limestone. The sanctum is crowned with a shikhara and the octagonal mandapa preceeding the sanctum has six verandahs. The mandapa houses exquisitely carved pillars and sculpted toranas join the columns, leading to the sanctum.
The Adinath Jain temple complex has 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars of which no two are exactly alike. A quadruple image of Adinath stands in the main shrine, open on all four sides. Another spectacular temple in Ranakpur is the Chaumukh temple dedicated to Adinath, one of the Jain Tirthankaras.
Ranakpur Jain temple is one of the main Jain pilgrim centres in India. The huge temple complex is made of pure white marble quarried from Makrana in Rajastan, which has supplied quality white marble to Taj Mahal and Victoria memorial Kolkatta.
The beautifully carved temple is made in three stories and photography is permitted from 1300 h onwards at a fee of Rs 50.
It is 2 hour jouney from Abu road by train. Well connected by bus from Udaipur and Jodhpur via Falna.

The zoological gardens is one of the best in India with a good collection of animals and birds including some of the rare species from the Polar area.
Rail museum near the Manas Gangotri University campus is having some very good display of vintage railway coaches and engines. This is one of the best few Rail museums in India.

Brindavan Gardens (19 km) - Brindavan gardens is a beautiful garden set up near the Krishna Rajendra dam. Garden is well maintained and too clean. Garden will be lighted in the evenings and has a fine dancing fountain (Light & sound show in the enening) at the end.
Srirangapatana - It is 16 km from Mysore on the banks of Cauveri river. It was the capital of Great King Tipu Sultan, museum, palace, tombs of Tipu Sultan & Hyder Ali (his father), Sangam - confluence of 3 rivers, place where Tipu Sultan found dead while fighting with the British, fort, mosque and a huge temple.
RANGANATHITTU bird sanctuary (19 km), Nanjangud (22 km) - Nanjundeswara temple, Somnathpur (38 km) - Hoysala temple, Shivsamudram water falls (85 km) - Asia's first hydro electric project, Mercara/Coorg (120 km) - Hill station.

Ramkund : This holy tank is 27m by 12 m was built in 1696 by Chitrarao Khatarkar. It is believed that Ram and Sita used to bathe in this tank during their exile . Every Hindu wishes his ashes to be immeresed here so as to attain "moksha".
Muktidham temple : Built in marble, the 18 chapters of the Geeta are written on the walls. Located near the Nashik road railway station.
Coin museum : The Indian institute of research in numismatic studies, the only one of its kind in Asia , established in 1980, has maintained extensive archives or photographs of coins.
Pandavleni : located on the Trivasmi hill, these caves are built by Jain kings 2000 years ago. There are some 24 caves that were home to Jain saints.
