Mohanlal is an amazing actor - he not only vibes well with all his heroines but has an ability to gel with his screen mothers. People refer to Kaviyoor Ponnamma, who has acted as his mother for years, is referred to as 'Mohanlal's mother'!

Coming back to heroines, it was Karthika who was paired with Mohanlal in the largest number of his films. Most of their films were successful at the box office. The success of a pair is also judged by the amount of gossip they manage to create. In those days it was rumoured that Mohanlal and Karthika would get married.

However, after acting in some memorable films with Mohanlal, Karthika quit films and got married and completely disappeared from the Malayalam film scene.

Shobhana replaced Karthika and once again Mohanlal created a furore with her - their on screen chemistry was inimitable and people felt they were the best pair after Prem Nazir and Sheela. Both of them churned out many hits together. They created magic on the screen - both in tragedies and comedies.

Priyadarshan's Thenmavin Kombathu is one such comedy. In Manichitrathazhu, they did not do the romantic role, but director Fazil presented them as the central characters, and people remember it as Lal-Shobhana film.
Later on Shobhana shifted her attention to her dancing assignments and gradually disappeared from the scene. After a long hiatus she appeared in Revathy's directorial venture Mitr - My Friend and won her second National award for her stupendous performance of a lonesome woman in a foreign land.

Mohanlal has also worked with Revathy and their memorable performance in Kilukkam is an all-time favourite with Malayalis. It was a delight watching them indulge in repartees. Then came Urvasi. In Bharatam and Midhunam their on screen rapport was amazing.

Mohanlal got an opportunity to work with Manju Warrier as well. They worked in several films but they are remembered for their excellent performances in Aaram Thampuran and Kanmadam. Apparently Mohanlal enjoyed all the fiery scenes with Manju Warrier in Aaram Thampuran.

After watching Mohanlal working with such intense actresses, it is sad to see him acting with teenage girls like Nayanthara who are young enough to be his daughters.

Rumours are rife that director Joshi is planning to bring Mohanlal and Shobhana together in his next film titled Mambazhakkalam. Keralites can definitely expect some fire on the screen after a long time.
