    Hi All,

Do we need to switch to vBulletin forum ?

phpBB there are some limits, new version of phpBB coming soon with lot more features. Do we have to wait for phpBB 3 or switch the forum to vBulletin ?

Your votes will decide what to do

    Thanks,

    Nokia

bulletproofsoul, you can find a vBulletin form on their own site at

    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=47

Using it is almost similar to phpBB, i too never noticed much difference.

ftvfatboy, i am thinking about the move, but if we need SEO mod it cost again in vBulletin. Not sure have to pay for everything, i was reading through vBulletin forum last day. I have done a local install and tried changing skin to bizhat layout, that is really easy.

Also vBulletin have more features for Moderators also. Some thing made me look into vBulletin was sub forums, with phpBB, it is not possible now (phpBB 3 have this).

okay now i remember the difference. there isnt much. i think it would be a good fit for this community ;P i hope it is cost effective for you to migrate servers for that. my other question is what would happen to the current posts? would we be starting from scratch if everything moved?

All posts can be imported. But the urls will change. Also google need to reindex everything. Now forums.bizhat.com have 30,400 pages indexed by google.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site%...2ebizhat%2ecom

Moving to vBulleting, everything need to reindex. Also SEO mod is not Free with vBulleting and is very costly. May be we have to go with out no SEO mod.

Next consideration is server load, i think vBulletin need more CPU resource as templates stored in database, in phpBB templates are in file system and is easy to access. I don't think there any need to store templates in database as they are not constantly changing or need to be searched.

vBulletin put templates in database as it make easy to edit through web interface (admin control panel), this make lot of web masters we don't know how to FTP files happy.

    Still vBulletin looks good :D

Yes, phpBB3 is good choice, but have to wait. I have installed it on local pc for testing. The admin control panel and installation itself is completely different. MOD's like Quick Reply, Sub Forum and Attachment MOD are available by default.
