The reason why the official web site for Call of Duty comes up first is because other places link to it in their pages with the readable text as Call of Duty. For example, lets say I open a blog and I say, "Wow, I just played this amazing game called Call Of Duty." Google looks through code and finds these things which pushes the http://www.callofduty.com/ website up the ranks.I'm kind of new to website building, relatively.
What do you need to do to put your website name in the first slot of search engines. Like when you search for "Call of Duty" their site comes up first. Is there a trick to put your website name first? repeated metatags, domain, etc.
A good example of this in action is how the official Whitehouse.org web page of George W Bush is the highest in rank when you type in miserable failure into the google search page. Go to http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...erable+failure . Now, my government did not put the words "miserable failure" into the meta tags of this page (which is another way to move up the ranks on google.) How it happened was by people on millions of blogs and webpages linking to the page: http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html with the visible text of "miserable failure." One way somebody can do this as a sort of google 'hack' is by spamming forums and blogs with these links. This is a very high issue currently.
The thing about the links is only one way to move up the ranks in google.
Another way is by meta tags! http://searchenginewatch.com/webmast...le.php/2167931 . You throw this little bit of code in before the body between the head tags. This tells google what your page is about. Another abuse people do is by throwing in every word they can think of, relevant to the page or not. Don't do this!
I'm sure their are many other methods, and you can find these by doin a little serchin at google.com .
