CHENNAI: Tamil thespian Kamal Haasan and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal are coming together for the first time in a bilingual movie 'Kandhar', about the conspiracy behind hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in December 1999.

To be directed by Major Ravi, the film is said to be the director's version based on inside information from defence sources, said a publicist.

"Kandhar" is expected to go on the floors in mid-2009.

A former army office, Ravi started his stint in filmdom as a military consultant for films. In 2006, he debuted as a director with "Keertichakra". Featuring Mohanlal, the film was on Kashmir militancy. His second movie "Mission 90 Days" was on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination with Mammootty in the main lead. While "Keertichakra" earned rave reviews, "Mission 90 Days" failed at the box office.
