NIKE History
The Shoe Game’s favorite company would have to be Nike. Nike was founded in 1962, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight originally started as Blue Ribbon Sports. It wasn’t until 1972, when they decided to call their upcoming company "Nike", which was named after the winged Greek goddess of victory. After reading that you would think Nike’s logo would be a wing, but instead Nike went with the "Swoosh". The "Swoosh" is well known all around the globe, and it was designed in 1971, by Carolyn Davidson for ONLY $35.00. Not only can Nike be spotted by the "Swoosh" logo it’s well known "Just Do It" slogan makes Nike stand out like no other company.
It took a while for Nike to establish the great name they have today, and in the early 80's many people complained about how Nikes were not made in the United States (US). People were mad at the fact Nike shoes were made in Vietnam, China, and Indonesia where the people are paid in low wages and treated poorly. This led to a major conflict with Nike products leading to boycotts. Although, this was a major issue to some people it didn’t stop Nike from handling business.
The major turning point for Nike was when the world’s greatest basketball player came to the company in 1985. Michael Jordan changed the game and it took Nike to another level with the popular "Air Jordan" shoe along with the apparel. Nike may never admit to this, but Mike is greatly responsible for their success today. Without Mike Nike probably would still be trying to get to the top, but "Thank God" for Michael Jordan.
Later on down the line Nike teamed up with more famous athletes like Bo Jackson, Andre Agassi, Charles Barkley, Deion Sanders, Ken Griffey, Scottie Pippen, Penny Hardaway, Jason Kidd, Barry Sanders, and many more.
