Boxer Akhil in World Cup semi-final

MOSCOW: India boxer Akhil Kumar outpunched Marcel Schneider of Germany to enter the semi-final of bantam weight category in the World Cup here Wednesday.

Akhil rained punches as he won the quarterfinal bout 15-6.

In the semi-final, Akhil will meet Cuban Yankiel Leon Alarcon, who defeated Botswana's Khumiso Ikgopoleng 7-0.

Akhil got a direct entry into the elite event on account of his quarterfinal appearance at the Beijing Games.

Jitender (51kg) Antharesh Lakra (57kg) and Dinesh (84kg) are the other Indians in fray.
