Thumbs up Kochi tourism- Travel Information

Kochi has been a major tourist destination due to the sights and experiences that Kochi has to offer. Beautiful sceneries including picture-perfect sandy beaches, lush green forests, breath taking hills and mountains, tranquil backwaters, and mind blowing waterfalls, have attracted tourists from all over the world to come and experience Kochi. Apart from these scenic views, Kochi is also considered an important commercial hub, as well as a cultural melting pot for more reasons than one. In the historical sites, one can see influences of the Chinese, the Arabs, the Portuguese, and the British, in their architecture and ambience. Shopping is also a major attraction to tourists as one can find curios, handicrafts and antiques native to Kerala in the local markets of Kochi. The textile retail industry is a major industry in Kochi and has provoked almost the entire tourist crowd that visits Kochi to fill their shopping bags up with traditional clothes.

One can get to Kochi by train, as it is connected to all the major cities in India via a meticulously planned network of railway lines. There are three major railway stations in Kochi that would facilitate in your journey. Cochin Harbor Terminus, Ernakulam Town and Ernakulam Junction stations are the three stations where many important trains start their journey, as well as pass through, in Kochi. Reaching the city by road is also easy as the city is connected to most of the other cities by an extensive network of roads. The National Highway (NH) system has been the backbone of travel by road for India. NH 17 and NH 49 start from Kochi as the starting point and go up to Mumbai and Madurai respectively. NH 47 is another highway that goes through the heart of Kochi as it extends from Kanyakumari to Salem. Travelling by air seems to be the easiest and most time saving mode of travel these days.
