About AndrewCook
Biography:
There is no law requiring schools to give intelligence tests to their students on a regular basis. Many educators actually don’t even like the idea of using these tests because they are said to crush the students’ self-confidence when they get a low score.

However, many advocates of IQ testing are insisting that this is a very important means of evaluating a child and his performance in school. This is not to say that IQ tests should replace academic exams given by teachers – they are two very different tests with very different purposes and should not be mistaken for one another. But IQ tests are nevertheless just as important as other tests given in school for several reasons.

First of all, an IQ test can be used during the admission procedures in order to determine what grade level a particular student should be in. Most schools determine a child’s grade level based on his age. So typically, a 6-year-old would automatically be allowed into first grade.

But there are instances where a child is extremely intelligent for his age and can actually skip a grade or two without having any difficulties catching up with the rest of the class. There are also instances where a child would be rather slow to learn compared to other kids in his age group, so he may have to be placed in a lower grade level. Such occasional discrepancies can only be identified if the students are made to take an intelligence test.

Furthermore, intelligence tests can also be given to older students to help them figure out what career to choose later in life. For example, if their test shows an exemplary score in the mathematical section, they might make good engineers or accountants. If their scores are highest in the linguistic section, they may have a brilliant career as teachers or writers.
