Cast based reservations in India!
Since the independence, India is having a reservation for sceduled caste and scheduled tribes for education and government jobs. Susequently, the same was extended to other backward class people.
In spite of the reservations for last 60 years or so, the actual condition of the backward classes doesn't seem to have improved. At the same time, there are several folks from so called forward classes, who are so poor that they can't impart education to their wards. I feel it's high time, the reservation is kept only for the economically backward people only. This being the sole yardstick, it'll automatically cater to help the needy people from all castes while weeding out the financially developed people.
Cast - inchangeable destiny?
A professor of University of Roma (Italy) stayed in rural area not so far from Bangalore for 2 years.
She is very pessimistic about the futur of India.
She said that superieur casts control politic and economy and leave no chance for lower casts. There is no real democracy. Any law to protect the poor does not function as it is supposed to do.
She is pessimistic also because the speed of expansion of HIV/AIDS is so high. She estimtes there would be a huge lost of population in next coming years.
Most probably, it is the poorest who die first, because of lack of prevention and treatment, but as the rich depend on the poor (=cheap workers), the rich will have also problem.
India is an impressing country with high technology in contrast of the high incidence of extreme poverty. But isn't there any rich who would think to share the fruit of economical development?
Too much inequality in the society is not good at all. We see in the case of both developped and developping countries as USA, South America, big cities of China etc. unease of society.
I am not communist, but I think the high equality policy like Scandinavian countries are ideal for social peace.
