Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh 2013

Tourists heading for Manali to enjoy snow were forced to walk from Patlikuhl, some 20 km before Manali on 21 Jan 2013. There is a snow cover of more than 1.5 m on the road. Many travelers are trapped inside the car. There is a high chance for accidents due to slippery road condition. Heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh has left 10,000 vehicles stranded across the state as most roads are closed. Apart from national highways, around 185 link roads are blocked due to snowfall.

Manali has got 1 m high snow. Nigh temperature -6 C. No electricity and water supply.

Roads to Shimla and Dalhousie are also blocked due to snow.

People are short of essential commodities at many places. Power lines are to be restored and many villages are in darkness.

A woman and her son were killed in Pangi village of Kinnaur district after a snow-covered tree collapsed on their house while another person was swept away by an avalanche in village of Killar tehsil of Chamba district on Saturday.

House roofs and trees are covered with snow. JCBs are working round the clock to clear the snow.

Lahaul - Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur area are under snow. Water is turned into ice.
