Exclusive: Know Aditya Roy Kapur's food philosophy

Unlike B-town’s usual weight-watchers, newbie Aditya Roy Kapur is quite the foodie. Infact, he likes tasty food as much as he likes playing his guitar. For those not in the know, ARK loves his guitar. “I live only to eat good food and make good music,” he says lightheartedly. Though he admits that he lacks skills in the cooking department, Aditya vouches for the fact that he isn’t a fussy eater. From posh restaurants to roadside food, the Aashiqui 2 actor claims that he can eat anything as long as it’s delicious. In a tête-Ã*-tête with Filmfare, the young heartthrob reveals his food preferences. Read on.

My food philosophy

Once I like something, I will eat it again and again. So when I visit the same restaurant for the second or the third time, I only order the dish I like the most. I experiment with food only when I visit a joint for the first time.

Morning must-have

I start my morning with a strong cup of coffee. I know that’s not a very good habit since we are supposed to start our day with a glass of hot water. But I am addicted to coffee. I can't open my eyes in the morning till I take the first sip of my coffee. I generally drink it on an empty stomach.

Guilty pleasure

Copious amounts of cheese and bread is my guilty pleasure. On a bad day, anything cheesy with bread will instantly give my day a face-lift. Retail therapy has a therapeutic effect on most women. Similarly, delectable food has a calming effect on me. Like I said earlier, I live to eat.

One dish I can die for

I eat the most at Indigo Deli in Bandra, Mumbai. I love the Eggs Benedict there. In fact, Eggs Benedict is my favourite dish ever. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Favourite cuisine

My favourite cuisine has to be Indian. Butter chicken, kaali daal and butter naan. Yum! I also like Chinese food. But only Indian Chinese. I remember trying out Chinese food in Hong Kong and hating it. Authentic Chinese food stinks. Kung Pao chicken and Kung Pao potatoes are my favourite Indian Chinese dishes. Especially, those served in the Gymkhana club and Otters club. They’re spicier and tastier.

Love for street food

I am a street food junkie. Yes, I love going to fancy restaurants to enjoy a scrumptious meal but I’ve grown up on street food. I can’t live without it. The service is super fast and it’s finger-licking good, what else does one need? From bhel puri, sev puri, paani puri, dahi batata puri, kathi rolls, boti kababs to seekh kabab rolls, I love everything. It’s sasta and tikau


On exotic meals…

I remember eating snails and snakes in Hong Kong. And as much as I’d like to say they were repulsive, they weren’t. I didn’t mind them. But they’re definitely not dishes I can eat every day. That was undoubtedly the weirdest meal of my life. But weird doesn’t always mean bad.

Sweet tooth

I am a manic ice cream eater. At one point in time, I used to finish half a kilo of ice cream every night. Baskin Robbins actually gives you the option of taking quarter kilo of ice cream in a tub. So I would take two quarter kilo tubs and finish them in one go. Honey Nut Crunch and Bavarian Chocolate are my favourite flavours. In desserts, I also love the apple pie my dad makes. When he makes it, he makes a good six or seven. And I get to eat a pie every day of the week with ice cream. Yum!

Special treatment

Post Aashiqui 2, I am recognised a lot more. So the service in restaurants in the city has improved tremendously. But there’s also a downside. Yes, I love the fact that chefs give me personal attention but it gets difficult to eat when the waiters and the chef are standing and staring right at me. I like to savour my food and enjoy my meals. I don’t like them observing my every bite.

Most romantic meal


The most romantic meal I’ve ever had was at a seafood joint with my last girlfriend. It was rather messy, with crab claws hanging from our ears and all. It was romantic because we were both making total fools of ourselves in front of each other. And we were loving it. We ate like total junglees that day. Romantic meals don’t always have to be perfect candle-light affairs.
