3-Day training workshop at Nirdesh commences
	
	
		A three-day training workshop on  'Contract Law, Negotiations and Management' has commenced at the  National Institute for Research and Development of Defence Shipbuilding  (NIRDESH) at Chaliyam in Kozhikode.     The workshop, being organised by Goa  Shipyard Limited, began yesterday with lectures conducted by eminent  faculty members of reputed law schools.    Twentyfive participants from  Mazagon Dock (Mumbai), Cochin Shipyard (Kochi), Goa Shipyard (Goa),  Garden Reach Shipbuilders (Calcutta) and Hindustan Shipyard  (Visakhapatnam) are partcipating in the workshop, a press release here  said.   
 Inaugurating the workshop, Dr R  Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor of National Law School of India University,  Banagalore, urged the participants to develop Nirdesh into a place of  great ideas so that the aim of indigenous shipbuilding capabilities  could be achieved.    
 He stressed on the importance of  contracts as tools for doing good business and extended all cooperation  from National Law School to Nirdesh.    Lectures are being conducted by  Dr O V Nadimath, Professor of Law and Regstrar of the National Law  School of India University, Bangalore and Dr V Nagaraj, Vice Chancellor,  National Law University, Odisha, Orissa.   
 Participants will be introduced to  Contract Law and a number of case studies will be discussed to bring out  the importance of sound contracts.   Important contract clasues such as  arbitration, reconceliation, payment terms, force majure would also be  touched upon.    Senior Managers at the level of General managers who  are required to negotiate, frame and manage contracts are participating  in the workshop. 
 Since they manage defence related  contracts with foreign firms, special stress is being given at the  workshop on International, Defence related contracts. Common errors  committed while preparing contracts, national policies that govern  military contracts, defence purchase procedures etc. will be covered at  the workshop.  
 Nirdesh aims to achieve complete self  reliance in the strategic areas of R&D, Technology Development,  Design and Skill Development leading to indigenous construction of  warships, Submarines and related platforms.
