Hats off to Vikram and his director Vijay for taking the road less travelled with their Deivathirumagal. It is an honest film in the era of shallow and fraudulent mass masala movies with larger-than-life heroes. This one works and grabs us where it matters. Deivathirumagal is straight from the heart.

Vijay is able to draw the audiences from the first scene into the life of Krishna, a mentally challenged person who has the IQ of a five year old. He is fighting for the custody of his 6-year-old daughter, and in the process shows the people around him the value of love and family.

Vikram has come out with a very realistic portrayal and anchors the entire film. It makes you alternatively cry, get angry with the lopsided system and at same time laugh uncontrollably.


Story:

Vickram as Krishnan is a mentally challenged adult with the maturity of a five year old boy lives in Ooty with his six year old daughter Nila (Sara). After his wife passes away he takes care of his daughter and works in a chocolate factory in Ooty. Both are very affectionate to each other. Meanwhile Nila has been taken away by Krishnan’s father-in-law Rajendran (Sachin Khedkar) and wife’s sister Shwetha (Amala Paul). As Rajendran knowing well about the condition of Krishnan he wants to keep his grand daughter with him. He is a rich and a powerful person in the society. Entering Advocate Anuradha (Anushka) and her junior Vinod (Santhanam) and promising Krishnan to get back his daughter from the custody of his Father-in-Law. The rest of the story reveals whether Anushka win in the court and unite the Father and daughter???

Performances:

Chiyaan Vikram’s performance is outstanding as a maturity of a five year old boy. His role is very promising and he has performed well. He lives with the character Krishnan. Baby Sarah is the highlight of the movie. Her onscreen chemistry with Vikram has been wonderful. We can see different Anushka in this movie. As an advocate she has performed well and very impressive.

Amala Paul has done well and suits the character. Sanathanam’s humour part in the movie is enjoyable and apart from comedy he also touches our heart in emotional sequences. Nassar has done his part well and has given a stunning performance as a public prosecutor.

Hats off to Nirav Shan for bringing extra ordinary visuals, capture emotions in the movie. G V Prakash’s music is sounding well. Director A.L Vijay has given a good movie to the audiences and he has penned the screenplay in such a way. Finally his hardwork reflects in each scene of the movie.

Technicalities:

Vijay has yet again proved that he is here to stay with Deiva Thirumagal. It required lots of dedication and commitment while penning the script. He has taken best out of his team. He has shown immense maturity in handling such a difficult theme and working it out well with right entertaining and engrossing elements. His nose for minute details is worth mentioning. His skillful and catchy screenplay worked out right magic

Cinematography by Nirav Shah is good while T Santhanam’s set designs are the biggest assets for the film.

GV Prakash has blended his background music very well and his songs have already won the hearts of the audience.

Analysis:

As the film is inspired from Sean Penn’s I Am Sam, the first half of the film is predictable and a bit slow. The story moves in a relaxed manner and the actually film begins only in the second half which is very emotional and interesting. It is a film that would send positive vibes among those who love meaningful films.
