Just my two cents :)
Well, phpBB is a fine bulletin board, but every now and then rises up some security flow. The latest was "Session Handling Administrator Authentication Bypass" which allowed malicious users to gain administrator's privileges and access ACP. If you are concerned in your forum's security more than the look, I'd recommend you some other bulletin board, like Invision Power Board or vBulletin.
ya i use phpbb also, it's just a great forum
like u said, for a free forum...wat will we ask more
but i have also heard that phpbb is a bit easy to hack. there was a football club who uses phpbb. it was hacked recently
i think that the admin must take much precautions
it's got it's pluses and minuses.
Honestly PHPBB is highly customizable with hundreds of MODs... But is like swiss cheese when it comes to security.
Invision Powerboard is a little more stable and has more ridged code.
but in the end I would like to see components of Invision Powerboard to be mixed with PHPBB. But other than that I like PHP because it's a little easier to install. and easier to modify. ^^
I've used PHPbb forever and have had no other alternative. It is an EXCELLENT board and does its job. If I was to recommend one: this one is the one.
its been phpBB2 for years now =\ they just keep fixing stufff "Bugs" <--- Things that never happen to me when i use to host them

PhpBB Is The Best Forum Out :!:
I've never tried Invision or vBulletin before...and I'll appreciate it if people say why the like it over phpbb...rather than just saying it's better.
If it's better, wat exactly makes it better ? I mean anything in this world can be hacked, so makes no difference. Can we get a tangible reason why Invision or vBulletin is better than phpBB which I have had no problem with so far for 4 yrs now.
I won't mind trying these other alternatives, but I need to learn more from you who are using it on why u think it's the best, and not just some "i love it", "it's awesome" kinda stuff.....
Give better reasons
vbulletin, PhP series,Phorum 8x. very complicated againts PhPBB... i prefer PhPBB...
phpbb3??? stop dope!!!
pbpbb2 is the best and the most customizable php forum
try it
Visit my phpbb2 forum highly customized.
Send me PM if you like it
thx
phpbb is pretty good though what would be nice is html mass emails, mass private messages, people can be in groups and see different parts of the forum.. like banned users could only see the banned topic etc (invision has this).. password protect forums (invision has this again lol).. and some other things.. all in all phpbb is good for what its there to do though could be better with more features etc .. there are add-ons u can get though if u dont know much about it they can be allmost impossible to add-on (the more in depth add-ons).. well the support for phpbb is AMAZING! lol any questions http://www.phpbb.com answers everything in their support forums.. anyhow :D
