Westminster Abbey is another very popular attraction in London. Photography and filming is not allowed within the Abbey or the adjoining St. Margaret’s Church. Westminster Abbey is also the location of Royal Funerals, and a great number of Kings and Queens of England lie buried within. Video

St Paul's Cathedral, London

Important services held at St Paul's include the funerals of Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Sir Winston Churchill; Jubilee celebrations for Queen Victoria; peace services marking the end of the First and Second World Wars. Length 158 m, dome height 111 m, 34 m external dome diameter.

York Minister Cathedral, UK

This gothic cathedral in York, England was completed in 1472. The Minster is 158 metre long and each of its three towers are 60 metre high. The choir has an interior height of 31 metre. The Great East Window stained glass in York Minster dates back to the twelfth century is 23 m in height. video

Lincoln Cathedral : Built during 1185-1311 AD, located at Lincolnshire, 190 km from London. The Cathedral is 143.3 m long with 3 towers of 83 m height.

Durham Cathedral : Located at New Castle, 22 km from London. The Nave, Quire and two Transepts, north and south, were all built between 1093 and 1133. The Galilee Chapel (west) was added in 1175 having tomb of venerable Bede.

Ely Cathedral

It is the principal church of the Diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, England. Built during 1083-1375 AD. Cathedral has a number of tombs of Ely Bishops and Lords.

Length 163.7 m and Height (max) 66 m. Tower height(s) - 66 m (west tower) and 52 m (lantern).

Salisbury cathedral

The cathedral has the tallest church in England - 123 m and visitors can take the Tower tour through thew hollow interior. Length 134.7 m Height 25.6 m Tower height 63.8 m. Cathedral was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.

A visit to view the best preserved original Magna Carta in the Chapter House is for many visitors the highlight of their time at Salisbury Cathedral. Magna Carta contains 63 clauses written in Latin on parchment.

Canterbury Cathedral
World Heritage Site

It is one of the oldest and most famous Christian monument in England. It has a lenght of 157 m and 3 spires. Tower height is 72 m, tower height is 58 m. The cathedral has a total of twenty one bells (cast in 1981) in the three towers. The heaviest bell weighs 1.72 ton. The ringers practice on Thursday at 7.30 pm. The oldest bell in the cathedral is Bell Harry, cast in 1635, and is struck at 8 am and 9 pm to announce the opening and closing of the cathedral.

Much of the cathedral's stonework is damaged and crumbling, the roofs are leaking and much of the stained glass is badly corroded. The closure of parts of the cathedral would be seen as a significant loss of part of Britain's architectural heritage.

Gloucester Cathedral

Also known as Cathedral Church of St Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity and was built during 1089–1499. THe Cathedral has a length of 130 m, width of 43.9 m and a tower height of 68.6 m. Tower climb (269 steps) to the top of tower for a clear aerial view of the city and the bell chamber. Fee £3.00 for Adult (25 visitors per day)

There is no formal charge for admission, but adult visitors are asked to make a donation of £5.00 each towards the maintenance of this magnificent building. Photography is permitted provided that a donation of at least £5.00 is made. Tomb of Edward II is located in the Cathedral.

Exeter Cathedral

The present building was complete by about 1400, and has several notable features including an early set of misericords, an astronomical clock and the
longest uninterrupted vaulted ceiling in England (96 m).

The minstrels' gallery is decorated with 12 carved and painted angels playing medieval musical instruments including the cittern, bagpipe, hautboy, crwth, harp, trumpet, organ, guitar, tambourine and cymbals. The Cathedral organ stands on the ornate medieval screen. Bronescombe's tomb and the 18 m high bishop's throne made of Devon oak is located inside the Cathedral.

There are fourteen bells hung for ringing in the south tower, including a tenor of over 3.5 ton. Ringing takes place on the "Sunday after the third Saturday" at 1.30-3pm, and also on the first Sunday 8.30-9.45 am. Additionally, the bells are rung in the early morning in celebration of the three Great Festivals: Christmas Day, Easter Day and Pentecost.

Roof tours : Through the 251 steps of narrow stone spiral staircase. Tours run on Tuesday and Thursday at 14.00 h and Saturday at 11.00 h from April to September and last approx. 75 min. Place are limited to 12 people per tour. Roof tours are £8.50 per person.

Chichester Cathedral

The Cathedral spire is 82 m high. The cathedral has many treasures and artworks, the most precious being two carved reliefs dating from the 12th century and which are of exceptional rarity among English sculpture. The cathedral has paintings, Stained glass windows by Marc Chagall, a number of tombs of Bishops, Roman mosaics etc. There are now five pipe organs of different sizes and styles at Chichester Cathedral. The Cathedral is a nesting place for Peregrine Falcons. Located near Portsmouth in Sussex, England.

Liverpool Cathedral

The Cathedral has a length of 188.67 m (world's longest cathedral) and a tower of height 100.8 m and is 50 km from Manchester. The cathedral bells are at 67 m above floor level. It is the highest and heaviest ringing peal in the world. It is of 13 bells weighing 16.5 ton. At 14.5 ton, Great George is the second most massive bell in the British Isles (16.5 t Great Paul at St Paul's Cathedral, London is the heaviest).

Norwich Anglican Cathedral
