Should pitbulls be banned?
I don't think so, pitbulls(this includes practicaly all dogs) are usualy only aggressive if they are tought to be, or are in a position in which they must defend themselves. At least, that's my experiance with them. Though, I'm sure there are pitbulls out there that are just plain mean.
It also applies to children. If you're mean to them, they'll grow up mean.
I've personally been attacked by one, and I do not believe they should. It's all in the way that the animal is raised, and some people are just not suitable to own pets.
I also think it's kind of inhumane to get rid of a whole kind of animal, for any reason.
I guess people should have a right to own pit bulls as pets. However, those same owners should be held liable for their pets actions.
If a pit bull attacks someone, the owner needs to pay whatever fines are issued. If a pit bull kills a person, the owner should be put in prison and fined financially.
If these fines seem to harsh, one shouldn't own such a dog.
Oh dear. Obviously none of you have ever heard of genetics.
Rottweiler and Pitbulls were banned by government because some of them are wild and bite childrens. it was hot news and government banned them after this happen.
Ban the deed not the breed. Purebred dogs owned by responsible dog owners are seldom agressive (unlewss their owners want them to be) in that case ban the owners.
A properly socialised dog is gentle and considerate and sees all humans as alpha.
i think pitbulls are fine under serious training but we just can't get rid of them! <3 Lisa
I believe all dogs are a reflection of the owner. Therefore....No.
More people were seriosly injured by german shepards, dobermans or mastifs than by pitbulls, but none got an idea to forbid breeding those dogs. Don't forget abandoned dogs, they are somethimes wery dangerous, too.Quote:

this could go both ways. It is a matter of the breed if there is poor bloodlines. If there are good bloodlines then yes it CAN be a good dog in teh right hands.
I owned 2 rotties both of whim were adopted from shelters. They were good dogs and I trusted them 90% of the time. Since I didnt know their bloodlines I could not trust them 100% they were very good dogs. And for them to have been adopted out by the shelters proves they were good dogs. Shelters around here will not adopt out any breed of dog if any type of aggression has been showed.
A pitbull is actually not a bad dog. People get pit bulls thinking that they are a tough dog, and then use them for perverted things like dogfights. The dogs don't do well, hence they are abused, and they become hardened. Its the reputation that takes a toll on the dogs themselves.
i am scared of animals attacking me, especially ones that could tear my head off.
in the case of pitbulls, goodluck fighting animal protection groups about that. i blame the irresponsible owners about their pets going mad. they should not keep those vicious animals as they are not fit to take care of one.
A dog is a dog. The bigger they are, the worse the bite.
Humans are humans. -and i have no idea what to write here :D
Nah, it all comes down to responsibilities. If you own an animal, you are responsible to keep it on your residing premises or a suitable place(deppending on the animal). You are responsible to ensure that they can't escape, and attack children, adults or elderly.
I hear it almost every week that someone was attacked by a dog. Unfortunatelly when someone was attacked by pitbull or other branded dog, its get higly publicised by the media, so everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

They are totally dangerous. I would never have one around me...A dog is an animal and at any time could lose it...Not for me...I'll keep a cat around instead!
I think they should be banned most definitely. They are such vicious dogs. They just look so mean. I saw on t.v. on the show when animals attack. This one pit bull viciously attacked this lady. It was horrible. I could feel that lady's pain.
In my own neighborhood they have had a couple of people attacked by pitbulls. One lady was killed.
I think they should not ban pitbulls because they can be good dogs if they are raised right :D
i think the must be banned, because i dont like dogs much
A Pitbull killed a 9 month old baby sitting in the floor while the mom was in the kitchen.
The owners say the dog would have never hurt anything or anybody. This was the first time the dog became aggressive. The baby had not bothered the dog, she was sitting in a seat.
Many counties in my state have banned Pits and they are working on a statewide band.
I believe that as a dog owner you should be responsible of his/her dog at all times. The problem with pitbulls is that they can hurt people very easy if they escape their home and roam free in the streets. Again that can happen with any dog but the damage of other dogs toward people might not be as severe.
im sure it has been a few times here in this topic but a animal only knows what it is tought it does not grow up wanting to bite people unless its scared so no they should not be banned @$$holes who teach them those bad habbits should be beatin till the white meat shows
I have seen many pitbulls tried nicely and yet still go on a rampage. Wipe the pitbull breed off the planet!
IMHO Pitt bulls shouldn't be banned. I believe its the way the dog is raised. I personally know some very well behaved, trained Pitts.
Besides practically any dog breed or mix can be dangerous if untrained or for that matter trained for violence. Thats one of the reasons dog fighting is outlawed. Plus its so cruel.
mugwort
I think they have to be banned, they are too dangerous.
I like pitbulls. It`s not a problem in dogs it`s a problem in their owner. They teach him or to be very aggressive or not.
Nope, only the owners or "creators" who geneticly manipulates dogs to mach their own selfcentered wishes
