Reaction In A Bad Situation

So, I was reading this interesting book and at some point the main character enters a room only to find the love of his life being kissed by another man - in other words, cheating on him. He could have yelled, fought, gone on a rampage, but instead he did nothing.
Just froze in his place and left the room quietly - without the other two understanding he had ever been there. So, I'm asking.. How would you react in a similar type of situation? What would be your reaction?
A calm, collected one, an indifferent one, a masked one, a frozen one, a furious one..? I don't want to go on ranting.
I'm just intrigued to know. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Have u seen the movie America beauty?, i think this movie has a answer for ur question.The hero (kevin spacey), at a point of his life, attains somewhat a advanced level of maturity, a high level of composure in himself. Although he is subjected to all kinds of misbehaviour in his surroudings, like his wife havig an affair, his daughter's friend wants to seduce him, his daily montonous job etc, he accepts them all as a part of life. But, he never lets himself affected by those bad influences. He is always the same loving father. If someone is doing something bad to you, if u react by doing the same bad think to them, then it proves that you are no better than that person. Well, infact it proves nothing!!!

two words...ass whoppin...no way I'd just stand idlely while my woman was kissin on some other dude, lol, call it base..call it crude..call it whatever ya will, but its how I'd respond, an honest one at that

I will follow what ur character did in the book. that's the best way i think to escape from the embarassing situation.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I considered the situation deeply and I figured that I would also do the same as the main character - although I do not know what I would do next. And I can't imagine - there are way too many factors to be considered in order to reach such a decision.
So it seems that freezing and walking away is the number one reaction for now. Interesting. 8)

I liked your above quote a lot. That is the solution of most of the problems in our life. "American Beauty" story line fits into this context nicely.

One thing is sure that in any kind of situation our first action should never be a reaction. It never solves a problem rather helps in alleviating it.

Gettin' Caught

Karen started yawning
"Hey Scott, it's time for bed"
"You go ahead" he answered
"I'll surf the net instead"

"You sure love that computer"
Concern rose in her voice
"But why would you go surfing?
You have another choice"

I've got some work to do

Just climb in bed with you"

So off to bed went Karen
And all alone to sleep
While Scotty started surfin'
And the surf was getting deep

Much later she awakened
The blankets seemed so hot
She felt the space beside her

He's surely out there dozing

The keyboard it was silent
The screen tho' flickered bright
What was it he was doing
In the middle of the night?

She crept right up behind him
Then peeked around to see
And on the screen before her
As naked as can be

Were two young lovely women
Endowed in every way
One was named Miss April
The other was Miss May

"So Scott, what are you watching? "
The screen went blank just then
"Ah- nothing really honey
Just news from CNN"

"Oh CNN my eyeball
Those girls had nothing on"
He said "Oh yes I saw them
Their clothing was all gone"

"And that fact did concern me
It made me wonder when
They started going topless
On good old CNN"

"Why I'll just call the network
And make a big complaint"
"Don't bother" muttered Karen
"Cause foolin' me you ain't"

"Those girls were Playboy Bunnies
They're different from their peers
Aside from wearing nothing
They had on floppy ears"

"Was that the Playboy website? "
Scott said convincingly
"Those girls are always naked? ?
That's what you're telling me? ? "

She raised her hand for silence
He knew that he was caught
And further explanation
Would only get her hot

He stood there feeling foolish
Uncertain of his fate
But she just whispered to him
"Let's go, it's getting late"

"Just come to bed now Scotty"
But know that in this house
If you surf the Playboy website
You just might lose your mouse"

That was funny! And it almost looks like a coherent story, not a poem. Thanks for sharing.

American Beauty is a great example.....nice movie...but u neednot fall to levels of disgust just because everyone around is...ignore and carry on there are far more impotant things.....

if the girl is a wife then its different i think...:lol:

ok dear.. but I can see you smiling. That means you would have fun in breaking his face and you also presume that the other guy is so weak that you would be able to overcome him easily. What if he retaliates furiously and you have to run away to save your life -- Just a wild imagination :-)

I think i'd react the same way as the main character at the moment.. Wouldn't know what to do or how to feel after i'd closed the door :/

I have never been in this situation thank god. I can say though I think I would have prolly freaked out. But one never knows what they would do for sure in a certain situation until they are faced with the situation.

If someone i love dearly is cheating on me, then i wouldnt be able to keep calm. I would be frozen and not knowing what to do. Should i walk out and let them keep on doing that?
