Beter go to windows update, and scan your computer for new updates also SP2
service pack 2 sucks, its a piece of crap.
it conflicts with any spyware and firewall software you are running at the same time, even if you turn the windows firewall is off
you cant watch any websites cuz the activex script control is disabled and there is no way to swich the shit off
it crashes with internet explorer and some other browsers and windows is still as crap and shaky as its ever been, sp2 or no sp2.
Doesn't Seem To be very bad update....just make sure you use windows update and keep it up to date ;p
completely agree with ruptured.bizhat.com
i installed it on the laptop and indeed it messes up with my firewall, everytime i turn windows on it says my firewall is out of date ?!? And it get automatically updated from internet... I had problems installing it on my desktop (invalid product key it said), but im kinda happy it didnt get installed. :)
Ya i never have had any problems with service pack updates......wierd.....good luck to you with them...hope everything works out
I'm using other firewall.
Agnitum Potpost 2.5 Pro. Windows automatically shutdown MS Firewall.
And about spyware. Outpost Fire wall blocking all applications that I want.
So. SP2 - Rulez!
SP2 blows major chunks... i say burn microsoft and let the underdog rise thru.... GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I can't agree more. SP2 only causes me a lot of trouble back then. Some patch is ok, but SP2, I won't install it anymore.
I'm alredy installed SP2 and I have no problems with my OS.
Hint: Reinstall XP and Patch them to SP2.
My SP2's been fine - didn't detect Norton Antivirus and kept warning me i didn't have virus protection, but you can tell it that you'll monitor your Firewall / AV status and update it as you see fit in the Windows Security Centre.
All the security and stuff it introduces in IE can easily be avoided by either using a decent browser  or by lowering your security settings in control panel. It seems from the posts above that alot of ppl are winging about stuff they could put right if they bothered to use their eyes and poke around in control panel for a minute or two!
I'm using:
Kaspersky Antivirus v5
Agnitum Outpost Firewall v2.5
They had been succesfully detected by Windows Protect Center. Everything is working correctly.
using+norton2005
Don't like norton utilities...
Cuz this programs destroyed my system!
SP2 works pretty well for me. Fortunately, I read this (http://65.24.134.81/KipSolutions/SP2/SP2Overview.htm) article before I applied it to my laptop. When you realise how it does not allow certain malicious codes to run in the memory and myriad other improvements, you tend to like it. Unfortunately, for some people, their software conflicts with SP2. One should also read the 'Before you install SP2' page on microsoft. I am running XP SP2 with ZA Pro, Norton 2004, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D and Spysweeper and not one conflict with SP2! Maybe I am lucky ;-)
Cheers!
I don't use XP. But I hear it really is a piece of sh*t.
I use Windows 2003, no firewall and any browser otherthan Intenet Explorer
The best way is:
format c:
install XP
SP1
SP2
and thats all!
after that install other programms.
And all will work without problems.
Co ai co the tang toi cai dia SP2 duoc khong
But if you are installing SP2 there is no need to install SP1.Quote:

service pack 2 has too many glitches!!!!! I don't like it... and you have to get patches from too many sites for my liking after installing it...
if you have a good firewall and a good antivirus (like norton of Mcaffee) then you don't need to install it at all
PS... why install it when you can get Microsoft to post it out to you on a CD for FREE!!!!!????? just o to the microsoft website and look at the SP2 Page!!!
I'm Reinstall XP and installed SP2 and I have no problems with my OS.
oh + norton2005 :)
Why we need services pack, I don't khow to how doest it usedful.
i'm hearin too many iffy things about this, i havent upgraded to it yet on my computer, and by the looks of the replies dont think i will be upgradin anytime soon...........
my theory... don't install service pack 2!!! I don't like it!!! secondly... service packs upgrade your computer and install patches and bug fixes. essentially making it better... but they have bugs too
there are still lots bugs with it
more than a lot mate
SP 2 can be a problem.
I have seen it a couple of times now.
The system won't boot after installing sp2
Solution uninstall sp2, how to ?
I found a manual on the microsoft site.
I haven't got it here ifd i find it i will post it here.
Or you can try google instead.
The firewall is also a problem with some firewall software like norton
my work place has banned workers from installing sp2 as it stuffs up their programs. :(
i heard that SP2 fixed many bugs and errors, several new functions are also installed
but....i also heard....with these new functions....more new bugs and errors are created
so don't know whether its good to update to SP2
I have SP2 and it works fine for me. Just make sure you remove all viruses and spyware before installing. Also if you have another firewall such as McAfee or Norton, it is recommended you turn off the Windows Firewall. Also, SP2 made my computer run faster!
sp2 was always free and it sucks. the updates block too much files and update too much and i use nortan 2005
you should just be able to turn off or modify the auto updates from the Security Center if it updates too much. I just changed it to notify me before downloading/installing updates, lets me know when there are updates and it gets rid of that red icon in the taskbar. Im on dial up too, and automatically downloading makes the speed really slow
I hate SP2!
the idiotic cursor
comes up when
i disabled the windows update.
Microsoft released a "critical" fix on Thursday for a security issue left unresolved by the Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The configuration change closed a hole in the Windows firewall settings that could open up PCs to attack if the machines had been set to share files or a printer with the local network, said Gary Schare, director of product management for Windows.
"The changes we made in Service Pack 2 were better than before, but they could be narrowed even further," he said. "We told people (in September) that we would issue a software update and now we have."
The hole could allow anyone to access a PC that has its file sharing exceptions set up in the Windows XP SP2 firewall. The problem affects only those who use dialing software to connect to the Internet, Microsoft indicated in a Knowledge Base article on its Web site.
Best Regards!
Dilantha.
