You're welcome. W3Schools is an excellent place to start; it hosts effective tutorials for several webdesign languages. For static design, I'd suggest XHTML Strict and CSS (as I did above ;)).

Try checking that the Synapse template file is there, and check that it's permissions allow read rights.

Internet Explorer supports favicons, but patchily. They'll usually appear when you bookmark a site, but may or may not disappear after you close the browser or navigate to a different site.

PNGs are partially supported by IE, but alpha transparency isn't. I've never gotten around to testing it yet, but this site provides a solution.
