Default Prakash Jha launches TV channel, says it'll be voice of Bihar

MUMBAI: Filmmaker-turned-politician Prakash Jha has launched Maurya TV in Bihar because he felt the state badly needed its own voice. But he denies he started the channel to counter the rosy-picture Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government is trying to create.

"It is an infotainment channel devoted and restricted to Bihar. We aren't looking for footprints outside Bihar. Yes, the focus would be on happenings in Bihar. It will be an independent unbiased channel," Jha told IANS.

"The content should be put together in Bihar and voice the concerns of the state," said the director known for making Bihar-based intense political dramas like "GangaaJal" and "Apaharan".

The filmmaker, currently busy with in his feature film "Rajneeti", would not be involved in the day-to-day running of the channel.

"Sujit Jha, the former bureau chief of Aaj Tak, will be looking after my channel. We want our channel to be unbiased and we want it to be the language and voice of Bihar," said Jha.
