BCCI calls emergency IPL meeting
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday called an urgent meeting here with the IPL franchisees to settle issues related to player payments and the number of matches in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League, sources told CNN-IBN.
There is certain amount of uncertainty regarding the participation of 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab as some foreign players are unwilling to play for these two franchisees because of their outstanding dues.
Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has already written to the BCCI about non-payment of dues from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) — the franchise he represented in the first three editions of Indian Premier League.
Sources also told CNN-IBN that some franchisees are not happy with the new rules and regulations and are unhappy with the total number of matches in the fourth edition of the IPL.
As per the decisions taken by the IPL Governing Council on September 5, the forthcoming season will have 70 league matches plus four play-off matches with each team having the same number of ties (14 of which seven home and seven away) as in the previous IPL editions.
Earlier it was supposed to be 94 matches when all the franchisees signed agreement for the fourth season but now when the BCCI has reduced the number of matches to 74, franchisees have expressed their unhappiness with the curtailed format.
Of late many franchisees are still putting in more and more demands by shooting mails and letters to BCCI, so it is important for the board to clear the air before the auction begins.
