Engine
There are three engines available in XC90 just like the S80. The diesel version of the Volvo XC90 is equipped with a 2.4L, inline, 5 cylinder CRDI engine equipped with both automatic and manual transmission gearbox. The engine churns out a top power of 185 hp at 4,000 rpm and belts out a peak torque of 400 Nm at 2750 rpm. The petrol versions consist of the 3.2 L, 6 cylinder engine pumping out a top power of 238 hp at 6200 rpm while generating a maximum torque of 320 Nm at 3200 rpm. The second petrol variant is a 4.4 L V8 engine with a top power of 315 hp at 5058 rpm and peak torque of 440 Nm at 3900 rpm. The petrol versions are only available with 6 Speed Geartronic Transmissions.



Design And Comfort
Now the XC90 has all the reason to brag in this department. Ever since it was launched the SUV has been lauded for its design concept which very slyly combines the functionalities of an SUV with the luxury of a saloon. The muscular and sensible XC90 is 4,807 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2857 mm. Its front is attractive with a solid body-colour bumper, a deep V-ridged bonnet, a chrome trimmed black grille, distinct headlamps, and designer fog lamps. The rear is completed by the well-formed rear tail-lights.

Interiors
The XC90 has roomy and refined interiors with features that provide great comfort, convenience, and luxury. The XC90 can seat seven adults comfortably. All the seats are extremely comfortable with great support. The XC90 comes with an ambient temperature gauge, an integrated GSM phone, a power height adjustable heated driver's seat, a manual height adjustable heated front passenger seat, an electronic climate control (ECC), cruise control, and a choice of leather upholstery. An audio system with radio, MP3 and WMA compatible CD player, 4x40 Watts high performance amplifier, and 8- high performance speakers is standard on the XC90. An audio system with a separate remote control, a 140 Watts subwoofer, a 6-CD changer, an iPod/USB music interface, and rear headphone connectors is available as an option on the XC90. The central console is packed with all kinds of controls.

Ride And Handling
The XC90 is equipped with an independent McPherson strut front suspension and an independent 4-arm multilink rear suspension which are fine tuned to give the most bump-less and comfortable ride possible. The steering mechanism is almost identical to the one in S80. It's a speed sensitive steering with high precision control. The gear shift is also awesomely comfortable and smooth. All wheel drive is common in all the versions.


Safety
Volvo XC90 is loaded with class-leading safety features to ensure the protection of its occupants. The Volvo XC90's front end is specifically designed to absorb frontal impacts and also deflect any pedestrians up on to the hood of the vehicle rather than underneath the vehicle. Volvo has patented the unique frontal structure that has renowned crumple zones and pre-determined positions for the engine and other ancillaries during a frontal impact. Safety features like ABS, EBA, a side-impact protection system (SIPS), driver and front passenger dual-stage airbags with side-impact airbags, a remote-controlled central locking system, an engine immobiliser, and an anti-theft locking system are standard. This Volvo WHIPS system cradles the entire body of the occupants when they are jolted during a rear end collision. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the Volvo XC90 their Top Safety Pick award.

Variants, Price And Color
The three variants of XC90 are XC90 D5 AWD (Rs. 42, 50, 000), XC90 3.2 AWD (Rs. 43, 50,000) and XC90 V8 AWD (Rs. 49, 50,000).
