Jog falls
JOG FALLS (253 m) is the highest waterfall in India in Shimoga district of Karnataka. It is in Shravati river, and has four distinct falls named as Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer.
The spectacular view of the falls after going down is worth climbing those 1400 steps. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the base of the fall and an hour to climb up. The surrounding area around the falls is also quite beautiful, be it the Swarna Nadi river bank, the Sharavati valley with its views, or the lush forest area around the waterfalls. The falls looks different and beautiful from the top of the falls.
Jog falls is well connected both by rail as well as road. Nearest rail head is Sagar/Shimoga/Honavar/Bhatkal/Kumta. Frequent bus service from Bangalore, Mysore, Shimoga, Sirsi, Siddapur, Hubli, Mangalore to the falls. It is 30 km from Sagar. Bangalore (378 km), Bhatkal (90 km), Mangalore (180 km), Shimoga (104 km).
During or just after the monsoon is the Best season for a visit (June to Aug). Beware of leech.
GERSOPPA is the Largest waterfall in India located near Jog falls. Magod falls : 183 m is 80 km from Honavar.
