Maruti Suzuki has rolled out its new WagonR not only with a refurbished look, but also eclectic features, keeping prices at the levels of previous models. The new WagonR will run on KB series engines (998cc) that power the A-star and will be Bharat IV compliant. The new WagonR will be priced a shade higher than the existing models.



For the base model, the price will be Rs 5,000 more, whereas the high-end one will be around Rs 10,000 higher. The new WagonR has been launched to compete with the litany of new cars such as the Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai’s i10. For the new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki is setting aside Rs 290 crore.

The new WagonR will have maximum power of 6200rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500rpm. This is in contrast to the old model which was powered by 1061cc engine developing 64PS of max power and 84Nm of max torque.

There will also be a CNG variant of the new WagonR. Besides the new engine, the new WagonR will be snazzier both in the exterior as well as the interior.

The exterior will have a new headlamp, a new front grille and tail lamp styling. The new headlamp will help the new car get rid of its typically box-shaped look. The interiors will see a new instrument panel. With the dual tone interiors, the auto giant hopes to spur sales of the car.

The existing WagonR, that was launched in 1999 and sold nearly 8.8 lakh units, will be phased out. The WagonR has been the second largest selling car after the Alto.

The new WagonR has added 40mm to the wheelbase and 100mm to its overall length. Although this may sound insignificant, it does give a feeling that the car is more spacious. Safety features like ABS, airbags, defoggers and fog lamps have also been added to the top model.
