Producers Kalalaya had planned to release their Prabhu – Laila starrer Kalam simultaneously in India and Malaysia. But the Malaysian government banned the screening of the movie because they considered it violent. The film is directed by Kasi fame Vinayan.
Prabhu comes as a patriotic army chief in film. Kalabhavan Mani and Charu Hassan are also cast in the movie. During the Indo-Pak war, Indian soldiers are taken as prisoners of war and tortured in Pakistan. Kalam is about how the soldiers escape from the enemy camp. The film is originally made in Malayalam as War and Love and dubbed in Tamil as Kalam.
