AJAX and PHP

Hi guys,
can anyone explain what is the relationship between AJAX and PHP?
I thought AJAX is more for web application developed in Java, JSP, ASP and using extreme programming.

I will be happy to get some info about that.

AJAX can work with any language as it is dependent on client side browser feature.
