Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), India's largest mortgage lender, has reported a 18.56 per cent growth in its net profit for the second quarter ended September 30.

The lender's profit rose to Rs 1,574.9 crore, against Rs 1,328.3 crore in the corresponding period last year.

HDFC's profit for the first half of the current financial year has increased 21.4 per cent to Rs 2,850.76 crore, compared to Rs 2,348.39 crore recorded during the first six months of 2011-12.

HDFC Group's total income has increased to Rs 10,462.08 crore for the quarter ended September 30, compared to Rs 5,763.75 crore during the corresponding quarter of previous year, it said in a statement.

HDFC shares dropped 0.28 per cent to Rs 750 at the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday.
