Ezhara Ponnana Darshan at Ettumanur Mahadeva temple was held on the eighth day of the annual festival. On 8th March at around 8 pm on wards the Ezharaponnana (eight golden statuettes of elephant) were exhibited at the Sanctum Sanctorum (Sreekovil) of the temple. By around 9 pm, the gold covered elephants were transferred to 'Aasthana mandapam hall' located inside the outer temple wall.
At midnight on wards, devotees were permitted darshan. The eight golden elephants were taken around the temple in a procession at 2 am. It was a sleepless night for the tens of thousands of devotees.
Among the eight golden elephant statuettes, seven are 60 cm tall (around 90 kg in weight, carried by four persons) and the eighth one, half the size. The baby elephant is carried on head by a single person. They are wooden elephant statues covered with 13 kg gold offered to the presiding deity by Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, an erstwhile ruler of the Travancore kingdom.
The temple is located 11 km from Kottayam on the Ernakulam road.
