    Default Forum Spammers

    Hello,

My Forum is getting a lot of spam registers even with CAPTCHA on and User Verification=USER. Somehow the registers appear and remain INACTIVE. Is there any way of preventing this? Is there any way of blocking the creation of new users? This way I could have a post requesting that new users send a mail to me requesting to create an account and I'll do it after mannualy. It would be easier than having to delete by hand all this spam registers...

Yes, you can set your forum so that you must activate accounts.
In the admin panel, under General Admin: Configuration. There will be an option:

Enable account activation None User Admin

Check the Admin box. If a spammer does turn up, get there IP address and ban it, that is always useful

The problem is that unless you are able to catch these spammers when they happen to be online and you are able to identify them as spammers....or they actually do somehow manage to register and post, you cannot get their IP address/es. There is no way that I know of with a BizHat forum that you can get their IP info any other way. If someone knows of a way to obtain their IP info via any other method, I would be most interested in hearing it as I get a tremendous number of spammers on my own forum site. My forum is set up so that new registrants must type in a code (CAPTCHA) to register (which does not stop them from swamping me with new registrations) but at least I, as Admin, am the only one who has the power to activate any new accounts. I am open for suggestions....
