Advertising on your site

I was curious about something.

I have taken my hobby, playing Call of Duty, online via a website through BizHat hosting.

Now I know these are assumptions, but, let's say my site was a "success." That is, it gets frequent hits. Approximately 10 -20 daily.

What could you expect to get for adspace? For instance, the "Ads by Gooooooogle" at the top of this page is a great example. With that many hits from different users, how much do you think Google would pay per month?

In addition, let's say that I began receiving 100 hits daily , is it common to up the ad price?

And lastly, though I should have mentioned it first, how do advertisers even know how many hits a site is getting? I mean, couldn't you just lie?

I'm not too sure it works like that...

If it's Google, than they "review" you and decide if you get their ad. Then, you get your little page banner and they pay you according to the number of clicks it returns.

So, in the case of increased popularity, more user = more clicks in theory.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think that's what happens anyway.
