How to Prevent Infections in Children
There are many different types of infections that can invade the lives of our children. While it is not always possible to avoid these nasty little infections, it is possible to put up a line of defense. Here, I will inform you of some various methods you can use to prevent infections in children.
Step1
The first thing that you should do in order to prevent infections in children is to ensure that each and every single individual in the home learns the value of washing their hands. The hands come in contact with many different germs on a daily basis. Each member of the family should be sure to wash their hands many different times throughout the day. This includes both before and after using the restroom, before and after meals, when waking up, prior to going to bed, and various other times throughout the day.
Step2
If an individual has to cough and/or sneeze, it is safer to cover the mouth or nose area with the inner elbow or with a tissue. This will reduce the opportunity for infections to spread. In times past, it was believed that covering the mouth or nose with the hand was sufficient; however, it was found that this only spreads germs.
Step3
Many children may share towels, clothes, pillows, blankets, and more. It is important to teach children to not share these things. If these items are shared there is an increased opportunity for germs and various types of infections to spread rapidly. It is also important to disinfect toys and similar items that are played with on a consistent basis with a product like Lysol.
Step4
Children should be encouraged to take a multivitamin on a daily basis. This will help to increase the immunity of the child. It is also important to ensure that the child drinks plenty of water and other clear liquids throughout each day. This will assist in the proper hydration of an individual, as well as keeping the immunity strong.
