Thirunelly Temple

Surrounded by Kambamala, Karimala and Varadiga, the Thirunelly Temple is a marvel of temple architecture. The shrine is shielded with 30 granite columns and the ground is paved with huge square pieces of granite. The crystal clear waters of the Papanasini River running add to the enchantment of the place.

Thirunelli is famous as the destination to perform last rites of the deceased at the rock close to Papa nasini stream. Vishu is a main festival here and is participated by hundreds of tourists. Local tribals also come to the temple for the festival.

How to reach


06.15 h bus from Mananthavady take one hour to the temple through the forested route - teak, bamboo and eucalyptus - via Kattikulam, Begur and Appapara.
