Tips For Enhancing Confidence In Kids

 Love
Children who are shown love are known to have better social skills than their counterparts who don’t. Parental love is crucial in building a child’s confidence. Each expression of parental love will make a child feel wanted and will bring out the best in them.

 Communicate
Communication is vital when it comes to maintaining a healthy relationship with a child. When you talk to your child about the things you feel yourself, it helps the child open up and share his/her thoughts. Try including a positive thought at the end of each day. This will help them think positively too. Most importantly, maintain eye contact with your child while conversing. Choose your words with care. Words such as “You are fantastic”, “That was smart”, or, “Well done”, can make children feel better and motivate them.

 Listen
Ask your children questions and listen carefully when they answer. While asking questions is a great way to draw a child out, listening to their answers will keep the lines of communication open, as well as will improve the child’s communication skills.

 Encourage
Be your child’s cheerleader and find ways in which to inspire them. Pay attention when they show you any creative work that they have done. This will encourage them to do more. It is also good to encourage children to socialize so as to allow them to work on the strengths that they have.

 Appreciate
Appreciate your children when they do well in anything, and, more importantly, appreciate them for who they are. Resist the tendency to compare your child to another since this is one of the quickest ways in which you can demolish your child’s confidence. Remember that there is no standard mould that every child comes from. Each child is unique and their individuality should not be undermined.

 Respect
Respect for your child builds confidence in him/her as a person. By allowing, your child to make decisions (appropriate to his/her age) and by not undermining your child’s ability to perform a task, you are actually respecting your child.

 Be Consistent
Children require stability. To this end, it is recommended to have a consistent, regular, and dependable schedule, since this will help them have more confidence to try out new things.

 Set Goals
Set realistic goals for your children. Wherever possible, help the child set his/her own goals and cheer them on when they reach these goals. Help your children reach these goals, but do not work on the goals instead of them.

 Allow Failures
Never pressurize a child. Allow failures and let your child know that it is not wrong to fail in life once in a while. You can help your child to be much more confident by helping him/her to accept and cope with defeats, rather than expecting success every time. Show them that failure is a part of success.
