Shakira’s 11-year romance ends

Shakira and her boyfriend of almost 11 years, Antonio de la Rue, have split, the singer announced on her blog. “Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship. Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now,” she wrote.

Shakira, 33, also added that she and De la Rue, an investment banker, will continue to be partners in their business and professional lives. Shakira recently released the single 'Sale el Sol', the title track of her latest album.

I always find it quite refreshing to read reports on celebrities who deal with things like break-ups and divorces diplomatically and with maturity. There is too much slander these days in the press and it doesnt help when two people break up and then have arguments across publications. Its extremely unprofessional and many stars lose a lot of respect from fans by doing this. I think Shakira has done herself proud in the way she has publicised this. With dignity and grace - good on her.
