Leading IT and ITeS companies such as Infosys, MindTree, Mphasis, Thomson and Reuters have come forward to recruit candidates at the mega job fair to be held in Chickballapur on July 15 and 16. But, will these companies come away satisfied is the million dollar question. With more than 70 per cent of the 2,500 job aspirants who have submitted their applications either SSLC or PU failed candidates, the question begs to be answered.

The fair is being held jointly by the State Government, agencies such as Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation and Alva’s Foundation, Moodbidri.

The only saving point among the aspirants is that they have basic computer and Internet skills. This became apparent as 1,500 of them submitted their applications online, according to the organisers of the udyog mela.

On the suggestion of Mr. Moily, Alva’s Foundation had conducted a survey of the education levels of the unemployed youth in his Chickballapur Parliamentary Constituency, comprising the whole of Bangalore Rural district and Gauribidanur, Chickballapur, Gudibande and Bagepalli taluks. The survey showed that the majority of youth in the region discontinue their studies after SSLC, according to Amith Shetty and Gangadhar, placement officers with the foundation.

Yet, there is hope

However, the job fair is likely to offer some hope to these unqualified job aspirants as several garment factories and companies from the service, hospitality, security and healthcare sectors are attending the event.

Further, counselling and training sessions have been arranged by the organisers at nine centres, prior to the event to ensure that the job aspirants face the interviewers confidently. The counselling sessions would be held on July 1 at Chickballapur, Gauribidanur, Gudibande and Bagepalli and on July 2 at Yelahanka, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Nelamangala and Hoskote.
