Agrees to surrender 85 per cent seats to govt quota
Wilting under pressure, Dr Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College Karakonam, which is in the eye of a storm over the capitation fee controversy, has agreed to surrender 85 per cent seats to the government quota.
This followed a series of events starting with a media expose on the capitation fee and clash between the media and the police at the office of CSI headquarters here on Thursday.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting of the CSI south Kerala diocese office-bearers here on Thursday. The meeting also decided to pull out of the Kerala Self Financing Medical College Association and its agreement with the Government on setting aside 50 per cent seats for the Government merit list. The CSI meeting also decided to leave the decision on fee to the government.
Reacting to the development, the Youth Congress president and MLA, Mr P.C. Vishnunath, said that the college had no other option but to pull out of the association after the expose on capitation fee. “The management had lost credibility,†he said.
