In her quest to win her first best actress Academy Award after five previous nominations, Glenn Close just got a boost from the Tokyo International Film Festival, which named her best actress for her performance in Albert Nobbs.
In the film, which Roadside Attractions opens in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 21, Close plays a woman in 19th century Dublin who poses as a man to secure work as a butler.
The festival, which handed out its awards Sunday, gave its top prize to the French film Untouchables, about a paralyzed aristocrat and an ex-con who serves as his caregiver. Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy, who star in the film, shared the best actor prize.
Sony's Moneyball, with director Bennett Miller in attendance, served as the fest's closing night film.
