This is Fast and Easy.
It will only take 2-3 minutes of your time.

On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.

In the Run box, type: cmd and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type:dir /a /s /b %systemdrive%\kk32.dll
and then press the ENTER key to search your computer.
(People not familiar with DOS Commands Can Copy & paste by right clicking the DOS Titlebar, Select Edit, Selct Paste.)

If the file is present, the file path is displayed. If the file is not present, a message is displayed that the system cannot find the path.

If either of these files is present, your computer may is infected.

Restart in safemode and delete kk32.dll and/or surf.dat

can you explain which virus this is?
also, it is not very convenience to just manually detect viruses
i suggest rest of you use either some free anti-virus scanner like AVG 6 or other paid ones.

I was using Norton Antivirus 2004 on my PC. It will delete any email virus attachment in the emails that i read through outlook express.

Recently i switched to AVG after my NAV 2004 licence expired. But AVG can't delete the attached virus with the email.

yea, it's not as good as NAV, Symantec or other popular brand anti-virus
but it does almost everything for me
i've never used outlook express since it's written by Microsoft and you just can't trust the security.
i suggest you to move to either ThunderBird or one of the mail client that Mozilla, Netscape offers
Netscape is becoming more of a free commercial browser. Every time you install it, there will be a lot of things about AOL, etc.
Another way is just check your e-mail through the web.
they should scan all the attachments automatically for you, Yahoo! and Hotmail does that for me
