yea, i used redhat linux 9.0
it works pretty good
i just figure it out in the previous version though
why need help on it?
you just need to go throgh add new users and setting up lan. then u should be good
think it's stabler than window's sharing thingy
Yes, i need help :D
What i want to do is run a linux pc as file sharing server.
All the client PC's are running on Windows. All users will save files to Linux PC. This is possible with samba ?
Samba have to run in Linux pc ? Then how windows users will see the linux box ? Same way as windows My Network Places ?

Yea, it's pretty much the same
But just different setup instructions
first samba is for linux only
so you must run samba on a linux system, redhat 9.0 i suggest since i know more about that version
second, here comes all the user permission stuff and host name. All this stuff was stored in a file, smb.conf, under /etc/samba/ if i remember correctly
for the user permission, there is examples and explaination within smb.conf. after reading them, you should get most of it. but still i perfer to the graphical configuration software first which is "redhat-config-samba" in the command shell and you should find it too under the Menu or the location of Start in window
after setting up the lan which i assume you know howto do that already
all you need to check is the iptables to see if it's clean.
it blocks traffic sometimes
hope this will get you started and i will try to find some tutorial for u
