    Default Sweet justice

I have a staff member who hates me. Not the same one I've had issues with in the past (we've actually resolved our issues and are getting along really well right now). I hired this woman out of desperation about a year ago and at first she worked out okay, but in the past six weeks she's suddenly become insufferable. Loud, obnoxious, no problem discussing issues in front of members (which is my number one thing NOT to do), and she's been very angry with me. The problem, she says, is that I don't listen. The thing is, her definition of listening is "do what I say immediately" - and that doesn't fly with me. Needless to say, we've been having some conflict lately.

Anyway, on Wednesday, she came into my office and informed me that her last day in my department will be March 18th, at which time she is going to transfer to the fitness department. Mind you, she's on vacation until then so essentially effective immediately she is no longer working for me. I know she was looking for a fight or for me to argue with her but the fact is, I'm so relieved that she and her attitude are no longer my problem that I was thrilled and didn't try to hide it. The night before I had lost a lot of sleep trying to figure out how to handle the situation, so I was happy that it came to this.

The only problem is that I was irritated that the fitness director hired her without talking to me first. So today, after I went for a run in the park, I popped in to see the fitness director before I came home.

Well, it turns out that not only did she NOT hire my staff member, she doesn't know that she wants to! This woman has had two knee replacements in the past two years and can't stand for an extended period of time. The fitness staff is constantly patrolling the floor and are never seated, so the fitness director said that they would talk about it when my staffer gets back from her trip - which would be, you guessed it, on March 18th.

I'm getting perverse pleasure that this woman tried desperately to screw me over by quitting immediately and she may not even have a job in the other department. You can bet I'll have her position filled by the time she comes back!!
