Fazil never shies away from experimenting with his films. His latest Vishu release Vismayathumbathu, a psychological thriller is being appreciated by the audience. The film has a solid story, great acting and a surprise climax. The meticulous and carefully written screenplay accelerates towards the end which is spell binding and absorbing. Fazil in an exclusive interview speaks about his film.
How did you make Vismayathumbathu, a film that has a bold and innovative theme, something which is a risk at the box-office?
(Smiles) The subject is totally different from the films that I have done earlier. After finishing the screenplay, I knew it was a risky proposition but went ahead with it as I was very confident about it.
And now after the release, what is the feed back that you are getting?
They say it is a unique and offbeat film with the right elements to make it an entertainer. The family and lady audience like the film which means the film is a hit in the long run.
Would you classify Vismayathumbathu as a horror film?
It is a supernatural thriller. I have not used too much graphics or computer generated images. The story is off-beat and totally different.
How did you incorporate comedy into such a serious film?
The film has no clichéd comedy, in spite of the presence of Salim Kumar, Harisri Asokan, Kalpana and above all Mukesh who breaks the intensity of the film with his great comedy timing. The chemistry between Mohanlal and Mukesh is excellent.
All the songs in the film are melodious contrary to the recent trend of fast numbers. Please comment.
Yes, all the songs are very melodious and suit the mood of the film. Ouseppachan has done a great job and I was very sure not to have too may songs, which might distract the viewer from the narration.
How were you able to get such good performance from the lead pair especially a newcomer like Nayantara?
Mohanlal is a natural performer and he could get into the skin of the character with ease. But Nayantara I am told is the surprise packet in the film and for a newcomer she has done a good job.
