Default Garden windows for your house

With cooler weather and less time in the garden it’s easy to get fidgety. However, there are lots of great ways to keep right on gardening through the late fall and winter. For example, you can bring the garden inside by growing indoor flowering bulbs, trying an indoor water garden, holding a seed exchange party, growing indoor herbs, and more. Another great indoor gardening adventure is installing a nice garden window.

Not only will a garden window allow your plants access to better indoor light, but garden windows look great in almost any style of home and can really open up a small room and make it seem larger. My aunt had this tiny dark kitchen and you would not believe the difference one simple garden window made – it was amazing.

Garden windows, sometimes called greenhouse windows are just a boxy shaped (or greenhouse shaped) window with a fixed window in front, usually single-hung windows on the sides and a glass top or window roof. Most people install garden windows in the kitchen, but I’ve also seen them in living room spaces and twice in bathrooms.

Before choosing a garden window you’ll need to consider orientation. For example, south-facing windows receive a lot of light but a north facing window won’t. Most of the time IF you do have a choice a garden window is best located in a window facing east or west to avoid sunlight and heat and cold extremes.Plus beyond orientation you’ll need to consider obstacles to the light such as roof overhangs, large trees, a fence, and so on. If you don’t have a choice of where to place a window, these observations can help you decide which plants to grow in your garden window based on the light and temperature they require.

There’s also the matter of window glazing to consider. Garden windows come with full glazing which is top and bottom glazing or side glazing only or you can try a combination of both. Lastly there are some garden windows that come in privacy versions such as semi-opaque – to see more options that garden windows may come with visit Milgard.

You can buy garden windows in many shapes, sizes, and configurations. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even make your own garden window or windows or simply purchase a pre-fab and install it yourself.
